Behind Gregory the Smarmy

In the Transfiguration corridor, behind the statue of Gregory the Smarmy, there are two hidden areas behind tapestrys with a vase in between them. I know the right one contains a stink pellet holder, but I can't for the life of me get into the area on the left. Is it supposed to be locked?? I know it's there because it shows up on Harry's map, but I can't get into it. Help!
