Flaws

In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, we see some major flaws from some typically "practically perfect in every way" characters. This is especially the case with Dumbledore.

Did the fact that you saw his flaws make you respect him less, or did the fact that he had these flaws, owned up to them and did what he could to set things right make him even more admirable in your eyes?

Personally, I didn't respect him any less. In fact, I actually respected the integrity of the character much more because I know how difficult it is to change, and there's no denying, Dumbledore did a complete turnaround.

it made respect him more, because he knew what he did wrong, and he made it right. he knew he shouldn't have a lot of power, so he kept himself from getting it. learning about his troubled past and seeing how made sure that he would never make those mistakes again just made me respect him all the more.

It didn't change for me. I based my opinion of him on the man he was "now" and would never think less of him because of what happened in the past, that's why it's called the past. I had utmost respect for Dumbledore so I couldn't respect him more than I already did.

I liked how DD had some flaws. It made him seem more human. And the fact that he didn't take the job as Minister because he knew what would happen if he had a lot of power made me respect him more.

I admire Dumbledore even more and I never thought that was possible!

It didn't affect my respect for him.

This is difficult to explain but I'll try! Dumbledore, to me, was just another character. I didn't become attached to him, admire him or anything - but I'm not saying I disliked him or anything like that.
Almost always when I read, I can imagine the world, enjoy it etc but I don't.......'feel' for the characters.

Well anyway I saw Dumbledore as wise, powerful etc but it was just interesting to me to read about his past. It was interesting to see another layer.
Besides, that's what it was - his past. Not his present. He didn't continue to do anything bad in secret or anything.
He also admitted he thought he shouldn't be in possession of too much power. To me, that could be argued as part of how wise he had become - he truely knew himself, his limits and stuck to them.

Well said! I don't care what he was in the past! I care about what he is and what he will be! So why do I like history so much?
It matters no what you were in the past. It matters what you do with it, what you are, what you become, and what you could be.

Yeah. At the end of the day, Dumbledore was powerful and had a lot of knowledge - but he used it in ways he thought were best for others.
