CoS questions

Postby Athena Appleton » Wednesday 17 March 2004 8:49:47pm

I was up at three o'clock this morning reading the Chamber of Secrets because, well, because that's just what I do, and I had a few questions...

1. HOW do they administer Mandrake juice to a ghost?

2. Is there some significance to Penelope Clearwater's attack by the baselisk (she's attacked the same time as Hermione, and I understand, Hermione's a main character, but it just seems SO glossed over)?

3. Dumbledore seems to know instinctively that Lucius Malfoy was responsible for Ginny getting her hands on the diary, and he warns Malfoy that severe action will be taken if anymore of Voldemort's old school items find their way into innocent hands again... Is this a clue that there are other former items that could be dangerous in a similar or different way? When Dumbledore is talking to Malfoy, a lot of emphasis is put on the eye contact... is Dumbledore using Legillimens (sp?)?

4. What happened with that Muggle Protection Act Arthur Weasley has been working on?

5. HOW DO THEY ADMINISTER MANDRAKE JUICE TO A GHOST???!!!??? (in case you can't tell, this is the one that is driving me the most batty)

Hmmm :???:

I'm thinking that Penelope was with Hermione so that it could shake up Percy because Ron said Percy was upset because he didn't think the creature would attack a prefect.

Very good point, my goodness Athena you are observant. It is a distinct possibility except that I am quite sure that Lucius will be as skilled as Snape at the very least at occlumency, being so high up in the Dark Order. My actual guess is that Dumbledore is very bright and Lucius had been hanging around a lot along the fact that Lucius threatened the board members into getting rid of DD he simply assumed and spoke as though he knew the truth to see Lucius' reaction.

Hopefully we will see it put into action when Fudge is taken out of office.

I know, it just seems like she went no where with this, except the one tiny hint that Ginny wanted to tell Harry and Ron something, and they make some assumptions about Percy... it just seems to be a little too glossed over for a typical J.K.Rowling thing...

But Snape has to be good at Occlumency, more because of his spying tasks than the fact that he's a Death Eater... I don't think all the Death Eaters would be highly skilled in Occlumency, because Voldemort can usually tell when they're lying.

I don't think they would have some other means of reviving him, since they were having to wait on the Mandrake juice, and he was revived the same night as Colin, Justin, Hermione and Penelope and Mrs. Norris. If they boiled it and wafted the fumes toward him, that would be assuming he could breathe in the fumes, wouldn't it? Do you know many ghosts that breathe?

It was just a guess.

yeah, well, I tried talking to my husband about how much the nearly-headless nick revival was bugging me and he gave me this look that clearly said, "Honey, you accept that a ghost can be petrified with no problem, but it really bothers you how he got unpetrified? hmmmm?"

Okay... here's another one... Ginny obviously spoke Parseltongue when she was setting the baselisk on people... does she have that ability still, or was it only at times when she was being enchanted that she could do it?

well, it's not like she's been around snakes a lot to show off this talent... however, it just occurred to me that she pretty much answers this question herself in OotP when she reminds Harry that she was posessed by Voldemort and she doesn't remember anything about what happened at those times...
