The "Big Three" a "Carbon Copy" of the &

Postby KBIG104 » Tuesday 15 July 2003 9:16:12pm

Listening to the series for a third time, read by the talented Mr. Jim Dale, I can't help but to notice that in many regards "The Big Three," Harry, Ron and Hermione, show many signs of "The Big Four," James, Sirius, Lupin, and Pettigrew.

However, Harry is NOT the most like James.

James' personally seems to have appeared with Ron. Generally tactless with manners, a Ron with a bit more guts to have the nerve to say, "C'mon Evans go out with me," while their storming away. Often Hermione mentions to Harry that he's "worse that Ron. No, wait, nobody's worse than Ron." James was a talented Quittich player, and although Ron is not quite as good, and cetainly more humble about it than James was, I couldn't help but notice that Ron started messing up his hair right after he won the house cup. Often, when Ron would do something better than Harry, or publically noticed, he'd share it with anyone who'd sit long enough to listen. I'd bet a young James would likely gloat about his skills in a similar manner.

Hermione is much like Lupin. Although Herminoe actually has the courage to enforce laws, rather than sit idly, she'd gladly curl up under a tree and read any old "boring" book, after several hours of exams, when to any normal person, reading is the last thing on your mind. Both are prefects, and generally show no lack of knowledge, when a situation requires it.

Harry takes after Sirius. Both act horribly rashly. If you consider the fact that despite the heroism involved in his adventures, most were really unnessesary, if Harry had only left the situation alone (sor. stone, dept. of secrets, try not so hard to win during maze). While Harry occasionally has a bit more patience, and will be a bit more likely to follow orders, they both let reason fly out the window when an adventuresome activity presents itself. Both would've pulled their wand on Dudley in the alleyway. I'm amazed Sirius wasn't expelled for misuse of magic.

Hmm......You know, I also thougth of the similarities in Harry's/Sirius behavior. You are right! And thats why Harry understood him so well, because he would act the same way as him.

Good analysis.

yeah, harry and Sirius's behavior is extremely similar, as are hermione's and lupin's. as for a match for wormtail, he and neville seem quite similar. both have inferior magic abilities compared to their friends and both are timid.

I think that your comparison was completely right. Everyone says that Harry is so much like his father, but from what I've seen so far, he is much more like Sirius. And Neville does seem like wortail (excpet that he isnt a horrible evil traitor  ).

It seems like since there is an equivelant of these four, maybe there is also an equivelant of Lily too? Harry's love interest. Though I dont think it's Cho (at least it better not be, I cant stand her), I think that it is Ginny, not only in looks, but she seems like she cares about other people like Lily did, but she also can stop caring as soon as that person is a jerk. Maybe once we start leaning about more characters from the past we will see more similarities betwee some other present characters. :-?

good idea, i think it's possible, bu t i think that also leaves an empty place for wormtail, meaning that whoever steps up to be wormtail, will also betray the treo, and i htink it might have been neville, except that neville's parents were messed up for voldemort so i don't think it can me him, so i think in essence it has to be ginny or luna, and i don't know which, but i think that it will be ginny, because ron thinks he has it bad, but maybe ginny can't live up to expectations like ron couldn't[/list]

I don't think Ginny'll betray, she was screwed by LV in CoS and she's not likely top forget it. I think the point is that history won't be repeated so whilst Neville is now the 4th member of the 'new' marauders, his lifes experiences won't result in him becoming Wormtail. We've already seen what these experience did to his study in DA.

I have absolutely no idea what to make of Luna...she's an enigma.

Well, just to add my stone,
you're righ about the similarities between the past and the present, but it doesn't mean that everything will be the same, meaning there won't be necessarily a treachery.
And by the way, we'll already have Cho's friend who betrayed them about the DA.
And, may be because I like Neville, Hoopmaster I don't think you're right sying Neville has, as wormtail, inferior magic abilities. I mean, he was facing all the death eaters with harry in the MoM and he andled the situation well, knowing it was the first time he used magic to fight. I think Nevle will become one great wizard, well I hope so...

i don't think that it's the only way it could happen, it's just an idea, no one has to betray them

and with neville, i think that he will turn out to be a very good wizard, i mean look at his parents, and he really did prove himself in the DoM fight

I think that Neville will really improve in the next couple of books--maybe he'll even get better than Harry (wishful thinking on my part, but I like him SO much more than Harry! :-) ) Also, when he gets his own wand, I'm sure that his skills will get a lot better. Neville is too good of a person to betray his friends though, and look at what LV did to his parents ( :-( ), that cements the fact that he wouldn't betray them the way Wormtail did.

In terms of betrayal,
we already have Cho's friend and of course Ron's brother. I don't know what will happen to him in the next books because his behaviour with all his family and friends was really revolting.

Percy will come back to the family now, that wasn't as much of a betrayal as it was an error i judgement, he just thought that his family were crackpots following a crackpot, so he put his work ahead of them

and cho's friend isn't a big enough betrayal (if there is going to be one at all), i mean all she did was rat them out to umbridge, not get two of them killed by voldemort

I agree, if there is going to be a betrayal, we definately haven't experienced it yet. As for the similarities between the past and the present, it is too uncanny to be irrelevant. I don't think that Ginny will betray them, or even Luna for that matter. What i really wanted to address was the situation regarding Neville's wand. I think that one of the reasons that Neville wasn't ever exactly excellent at magic may have something to do with his wand being his father's. I think that he may have been trying to hard to live up to his parents' expectations and it was affecting his magical abilities. I think that once he gets his own wand, he will definately start to excel in magic. Not to mention, he has started to become a lot more confident with his magic.
