Listening to the series for a third time, read by the talented Mr. Jim Dale, I can't help but to notice that in many regards "The Big Three," Harry, Ron and Hermione, show many signs of "The Big Four," James, Sirius, Lupin, and Pettigrew.
However, Harry is NOT the most like James.
James' personally seems to have appeared with Ron. Generally tactless with manners, a Ron with a bit more guts to have the nerve to say, "C'mon Evans go out with me," while their storming away. Often Hermione mentions to Harry that he's "worse that Ron. No, wait, nobody's worse than Ron." James was a talented Quittich player, and although Ron is not quite as good, and cetainly more humble about it than James was, I couldn't help but notice that Ron started messing up his hair right after he won the house cup. Often, when Ron would do something better than Harry, or publically noticed, he'd share it with anyone who'd sit long enough to listen. I'd bet a young James would likely gloat about his skills in a similar manner.
Hermione is much like Lupin. Although Herminoe actually has the courage to enforce laws, rather than sit idly, she'd gladly curl up under a tree and read any old "boring" book, after several hours of exams, when to any normal person, reading is the last thing on your mind. Both are prefects, and generally show no lack of knowledge, when a situation requires it.
Harry takes after Sirius. Both act horribly rashly. If you consider the fact that despite the heroism involved in his adventures, most were really unnessesary, if Harry had only left the situation alone (sor. stone, dept. of secrets, try not so hard to win during maze). While Harry occasionally has a bit more patience, and will be a bit more likely to follow orders, they both let reason fly out the window when an adventuresome activity presents itself. Both would've pulled their wand on Dudley in the alleyway. I'm amazed Sirius wasn't expelled for misuse of magic.
