Hum. I thought that Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane) and Ron (Rupert Grint) were perfect! And Malfoy (Tom Felton) was really good too. Nice and mean, and his slicked back hair is great!
But a lot of the others had one or two flaws. For example:
Hermione is much too cute. She is supposed to be plain--someone you WOULDN'T notice if she walked into a room. She (Emma Watson) plays the part well, but her looks are a big no-no. I think it's important that they are conveyed as normal, average-looking kids, and this wasn't emphasised on the movie. It's the same way with Harry--much too cute.
There was something wrong with Dumbledore. I think I've finally figured it out after almost a year. He just wasn't cheery enough. He's so funny, exciting, mysterious, in the book. In the movie Richard Harris pulls off the mysterious with style, but Dumbledore's fun-loving crazy side is pushed away. And that's what I always loved about Dumbledore too.
Harry wasn't as bad as some are saying (I personally thought his acting abilites were not the problem--they weren't too shabby) but some of his looks were wrong. For example--his eyes were not green enough, his hair was not messy enough and he's too cute, really. (At least, I think so). I mean...remember Ginny's poem?
His eyes are as green as a fresh-pickled toad
His hair is dark as a blackboard
Yep.
And another thing--Professor McGonagall didn't wear her spectacles enough and her hair is supposed to be black!
Mostly, I have my quips and qualms, but it was pretty decent.
I LOVED the Quidditch Match and Oliver Wood (I forget who plays him, Shawn something?) is gorgeous!
Tee-hee.
