Since we're not allowed to have signatures, I thought, why not have a thread to post all your wisdoms or favorite quotes? Voila!

Here are mine. I'll think of more as I go:

1) Man born of woman and born to trouble . . . and someday you will grok its fullness and you will laugh- because man is the animal that laughs at himself.
-Stranger in a Strange Land. (Grok means to understand)

2) My dear, I used to think I was serving humanity . . . and I pleasured in the thought. Then I discovered that humanity does not want to be served; on the contrary, it resents any attempt to serve it.
-Strangers in a Strange Land

3)Looking at the stars always makes me dream, as simply as I dream over the black dots representing towns and villages on a map. Why, I ask myself, shouldn't the shining dots of the sky be as accesible as the black dots on the map of France?- van Gogh

4) The Chinese have a proverb for everything- me

5) One of the many marvels of the world is that you can travel the whole globe and not find a single person who thinks exactly like you. It's a marvel, yes, but if the destruction of evil were ever in the balance, it'd be a damned nuisance- me

6) Man invented language to satisfy his deep need to complain.
-Lily Tomlin

There are more, but my mom's bugging me to get off the computer, so they'll have to wait until later.

aha! A fellow Orson Scott Card fan! You aren't on www.hatrack.com by any chance, are you?

Here's another good one of his:

Knowledge is just opinion that you trust enough to act upon.

I forget where it's from, though. :(

I wish I had my books with me so I could add more quotes . . . GRRRR

Go to Hatrack. Now!! I like it better than PWeb, actually. Here are more quotes:

Sometimes lies were more dependable than the truth.- Ender's Game

Only one rabbi dared to expect of us such a perfect balance that we could preserve the law and still forgive the deviation. So, of course, we killed him. -Speaker for the Dead

The great forces of history were real, after a fashion. But when you examined them closely, those great forces always came down to the dreams and hungers and judgments of individuals. The choices they made were real. They mattered. -Atlantis

Here's another that I really like:

"This is how humans are: we question all our beliefs, except for those that we really believe, and those we never think to question."
-Ender, Speaker For The Dead

"Humanity doesn't ask us to be happy. It simply asks us to be brilliant on its behalf. Happiness as we can manage it." Mazer Rackham, Ender's Game

"Welcome to the human race. Nobody controls his own life, Ender. The best you can do is choose to be controlled by good people, by people who love you." -Valentine, Ender's Game

I'm Cassandra there. Who are you on PWeb? I'm pretty much a lurker there, actually.

Here's another quote I found that I like:

"Gillian Boardman was considered professionally competent as a nurse; she was judged competent in wider fields by the bachelor internes and she was judged harshly by some other women. There was no harm in her and her hobby was men."-Stranger in a Strange Land.
