25 posts to be sorted...

Postby Ginny Malfoy » Wednesday 31 December 2003 1:44:21pm

I was just wondering...how and why it was decided you need 25 posts to be sorted? No negativity here...just curious. I really want to be sorted, and I am finding it hard to get my post count up without resorting to one-line posts in the games (though, I may go and do that)...I don't think I'll leave Broomsticks and Owls, but I wish I could have been in a house when I joined. Mostly, I was just wondering why the 25 posts...I'm sure you have good reasons! Thanks!

Ginny, I shall try and answer your questions.
Lizzy Bennet and I came up with the 25-post minimum some time ago, after BaO had to endure a very very nasty member, who spammed and insulted. Very disturbing!

Lizzy and I agreed that we didn't want such members in our house, and discussed how we could try and keep such people away.
We thought it best to have people post at least 25 posts, with a good board record, to be able to join Ravenclaw, so we could see how they acted around, and if they really planned on staying at, BaO.
You see, there were a lot of people who came here, posted one time saying they wanted to join a house and then never came back.

After that we talked about our plans with the other moderators and they thought it a good idea as well. So that's how it came to be.
I'm really sorry that this measurement is lessening your enjoyment of BaO, but I think that you can understand our reasoning behind it.

ps. I shall discuss things with the prefects in the mod section.

Gecko,

I think the 25 posts works brilliantly. I remeber being frustrated trying to reach 25 posts as well when I first got here, but it really doesn't take long at all. And I think it serves more than just the purpose it was intended to serve...

In addition to weeding out the bad seeds it also "trains" the new members to post. What I mean is that, it gets a new member (like myself) in the habit of posting rather than being an inactive member.

Ginny and I are good examples of how the 25 post rule actually does work. Even though both of us were frustrated at the rule, for me, it took several days to reach 25 posts, but by then I'd formed the habit of coming here and being an active member. For Ginny, it really only took her a day to reach her 25 posts and so in one day, she made the committment to be here. It is my estimation that she is going to be a great active member or she wouldn't have spent so much time yesterday and today trying to reach her 25 minimum.

Ginny, congratulations on reaching 25 posts! Enjoy your new home in Slytherin (I'm assuming that's where you'll be)

So, the 25 post minimum isn't all bad :-?

I am also in favour of the 25 posts rule(although I wasn't a mod then). In fact I was probably the last person to slip through the net before the rule was finally put in place  It didn't lessen my enjoyment of bao before I got sorted, because I was still discovering the wonders of the other sections :)
