Someone to switch houses

Postby Violet » Tuesday 11 November 2003 2:10:12pm

JK Rowling is reported to have said in an interview that someone will switch houses in the sixth book, does anyone have any ideas as to who?
i initially thought of Draco so that mayb there could be some alliance between him and harry, but he seems to be slytherin through and through, and i cant see that anyone in gryffindor would take too kindlt to having him in the house after everything he has done.
Also i didnt think that people could change houses once they had been sorted?

No way!

i never thought that would be allowed. But anyway, (oh this is such a great rumor!) lets see who would want to switch....

Luna!!!! What about Luna? She would be soo great in Gryffindore? She would be much closer to the "gang" Imean - ALL of the main good characters are in Gryffindore. :circling:

I really can't think of someone else who could switch houses...
Harry switching to Slytherin...(the sorting hat did said somewhere along the line) but that is entirely impossible

i cant see harry switching for 2 main reasons:
A) he doesnt want to switch houses, he fits in well in slytherin
B) he pulled godric gryffindor's sword out of the sorting hat, and:
"only a true gryffindor could have pulled that out of the Hat, Harry" said Dumbledore.

Luna could be a definate possibility cause she certainly shows the qualities of a gryffindor of courage etc.

I see that these people could be moved:

1) Luna Lovegood from Ravenclaw to Gryffindor. She does fit very well in the group. If there's a moving, I bet is Luna. However, the Sorting Hat does say that the houses should be united! Her relation with Gryffindor shows that this union is possible!

2) Parvati or Paravti's twin, Padma, cause they're twins! But after five years been separated, would they want to be together?

3) Hermione from Gryffindor to Ravenclaw . Remember? She said that she was almost put in Ravenclaw... But there's the group, most of her friends are Gryffindor...

Hmmmm... I guess its possible. I dont think it will be one of the Patil twins. they're not big enough characters for it to impact the story. and i dont think it will be Hermione. I'm sure that Rowling would never split up the three major characters. I suppose its possible for Luna, but i hope no one switches houses. I never did like Luna, and if she switched into Gryffindor, i wouldnt like it too much.

As most of you already said, Luna is very possible.
Neville could be moved into Hufflepuff...

I think Hermione won't be moved. I think any moving would be stupid, but J.K. is the God, so she can do, what she want's to do!

i guess i could see parvati or padma switching houses... but that would only be if their characters developed more. right now they're just side characters, but if they got a new dimension in the sixth book i could see them impacting the story in some way like that.

I see Draco moving in to Gryffindor. With his father gone, and his other contacts members of the DE, I could see DD removing Draco from the "slytherin" crowd. This also might be in attempts to join the four houses once the Slytherin gang leader is forced into another clique the other slytherins might follow...hmm...actually I dunno. Switching houses seems so outlandish, yet something has to be done to make the four houses come together, yes?

Wow- that sounds really interesting! I never thought that anyone would be allowed to switch houses :o I don't know who would, though. I'm tempted to write this off as one of those unreliable rumors you read around the net, but I dunno . . . if there's one thing I've learned, it's that anything is possible in the HP books. That said, I doubt it's going to be Hermione . . . she's such close friends with Ron and Harry, I don't think Dumbledore would move her, though it kinda does make more sense for her to be in Ravenclaw. Who was that girl who leaked information about the DA? Maybe she'll go to Hufflepuff or Slytherin or something?

Why do you all think DD is in charge of the House each one is in? I think that what makes you belong to Gryffindor, for instance, is the fact the Sorting Hat had shouted 'Gryffindor' in the Sorting Ceremony... So, if you enter in DD's office and put the Hat and it shouts some House, I guess it will make you instantly belong to that House.
Could something like this happen just by chance?

Well, you do have a point in that Dumbledore probably isn't in charge of who's in what house, but he should have a say in where people belong, don't you think?

Now that I think about it, as a measure to unify the school, I think he might do away with houses entirely, but that seems highly unlikely.

Maybe the question isn't who would switch houses, but why...

Assuming it could be anyone (and it's hard to imagine anyone switching houses) is it possible Harry would switch houses in order to try to get Slytherins against Voldemort or to spy on the Slytherins?

I know that's a bit far-fetched, but that seems to be the only house not against Voldemort. We keep getting hints about how everyone will have to come together...maybe switching someone to another house is a test...to see if the house divisions can be broken down. House divisions were starting to be broken down with Dumbledore's Army.

Obviously, if this happened (Harry being switched to Slytherin, where the hat wanted to put him), it'd mean a great deal of work for Harry...but it would also mean the Slytherins would have a much harder time being secretive...

After all, what WERE they doing while Dumbledore's Army was practiciing in book 5?

I personally think that Draco will go to the Gryffindor house. But who knows, I also think that Hermione could be switched into Ravenclaw. Their would be a major impact on the story and it would case conflict inbetween Harry and Dumbledor. Or Ron will go to Slytherin, Ron may turn against Harry because he can't stand his fame anymore. He may become a deatheatter, and be moved into Slytherin. Well, thats just what I think.

That's quite a sad tale... Ron in Slytherin?? Nah! I don't think so (please, don't take it personally, I just can't imagine Ron in the dark side!).
I think Ron has already stood 5 years in second place! He will be able to continue with Harry and Hermione, and most of all, with the good gays!
