It's a hard call . . . on the one hand, I agree with you . . . especially for the young kids reading this series, to kill off the title character would be devastating (not to say it wouldn't be for adults as well!). On the other hand, I don't think everything will be all neatly wrapped up and happy either . . . that would be cliched and with JKR being rather serious about the deaths being realistic and serious, I don't think she'd end her series on a predictable note.
It's hard to say what she'll do, but if I had to wager a guess, I'd go with gecko's idea that while we'll have some sense of resolution (she did say, in an interview, we'd have that about the characters!), I think she'll also leave it somewhat open-ended. JMHO.
