Luna Lovegood...

Who do you like best and who could you definately live without? Will there be romance in the air for any of them and who will end up with who?

Luna Lovegood...

Postby Holly Golightly » Sunday 22 June 2003 2:37:01am

Okies, so I'm getting the feeling that she is going to become one of the mail characters in the book... Well, not to the extent of Harry Ron and Hermoine, but pretty promintent at least!

She does seem to be quite good friends with Ginny, and it's looking like they might become involved in more adventures with the trio?

Also, with her dad being the eidtor for the Quibbler... I cant' see how, but that also gives the feeling of greater importance than we know about already...

What thinks? :D

Your coming online while reading the book... WOW!!!
I barely stopped for anything... *cept when I had an annoying guest!!!*

Umm, no, I dont' think that she will be a sinister character. I thinkhta tshe will help out! I think that shw will become one of the extended group, you know, inc Neville, and Ginny, and yeah, that lot!!! :D

Neville certainly is coming into his role now- we get more clues about his family. Luna just seems---- odd, a bit of an outsider.

Yeah, but as soon as JK named a chapter after her, and I read the first things about her, I guessed that she would become prominent in the rest of the series!

*hrmmmm, I just noticed that in my first post, I said she would become a mail character instead of a main one... maybe she will do tinkgs in envelopes!!! hehehe!!!*

I definately think that she has many more interesting things to contribute!!! And maybe the wierdness thing will help out in some ways... like, what's the go with that past at the end of the book...*I wont' write about what, since I think that you are still reading Engligh, and it seems to be just you and me here right now!!!*

But still, when you get to it, you'll prob understand... it's a strange type of thing to add in for no reason at all... :D

I agree Holly. I think she's definitely going to have a key role somewhere down the line. I thought she was a pretty cool new addition. Every school has the "weird" kid who turns out to be cool. It's nice JK included her. I'm glad Cho seems to be out of the way now. Maybe Luna and Harry down the road????

Lol, L/H wouls be an interesting prospect. And yeah, thank goodness for the end of Harry's obsession with Cho. God, I hated her like none other.

As for Luna, she didn't come across as evil, just a bit of a dangerous person to associate with. Mainly because she seemed so spacy and odd. I mean, if I were saving the world, I wouldn't want to take along some space-cadet kid. I'm just afraid that if she's included in the adventures of HRH in the next books, that it could be detrimental for them.

:) It seems like she and Neville might be around for the duration - space cadet and the not ready for prime time player who may turn into a hero. It seemed like L had an interest in Ron. In all seriousness, maybe L and R in book 6?

She'll be around...

Postby highsorcerer » Monday 23 June 2003 9:40:46am

I have to wonder if she'll be a new love interest for Harry now that Cho and him have moved on. Sure, she's a bit odd, but she's believed in Harry all along, got his side of the Voldermort story published, talked to him plainly about the flying dragon-horse things, and went with him to the Department of Mysteries. Loyalty like that might work wonders for him.

luna is described similarly to lily potter. notice how jkr obsesses about their eyes. also, luna is either very precocious or magically observent. she sees and hears damn near everything...and from the way she's described, with sometimes more clarity than Harry.

last chapters at the department of mysteries luna curiously hints her mother is a ghost because.....she can still see her....and there is a direct relation to that and the suspicion that something that Harry couldn't see was in the veil room...

luna on the other hand ate her wizzards wheateas and is on the ball.

luna is very loyal to harry, and above all - she's quite reserved. for a 4th year student i find that odd when the 5th year students can barely keep their emotions in check.

lets face it, luna can relate more to harry and hermione's baby-daddy is ron. Cho is a pretty airhead. harry and luna both lost parents. knows what it's like to be alone and misunderstood by everyone around them...and, by wizarding standards she is quite extraordinary.

Luna's mother is pretty important i think as well... i can't wait to read how jkr will develop her.

besides, no one liked cho. she was a ditz.

Luna and Harry is never going to happen (just too weird I think), Luna was interested in Ron, but surely Ron will never be in her.
I think Luna will end with Neville, the same similarities she shares with Harry she shares them with Neville (well, moreless), and it seems more pausible.

I kept wondering in the last part of the book, when Luna mentioned that she still could to talk to her mother, and if Harry heard the voices of the veil, what was really that about?.

I was wondering where JKR got the Luna part from.

The most obvious would be lunatic, but after searching the internet I also found this...

Selena was a Moon Goddess ... She is known for her countless love affairs ... Selene is a favorite of ... love poets. A moonlit night brings the feeling of romance. It is said that Selene's moon rays fall upon sleeping mortals, and her kisses fell upon her love, Endymion. She was involved in many love affairs... She is also called Luna.

This agrees with the 'lovegood' surname, so could this be a hidden meaning by JKR?

What does everyone think? :???:

JKR LOVES playing with names.

The real mystery is Luna's mom. She sounds very important. I believe Harry will meet Luna's mother bye the next book.

I am quite sure JKR intended on introducing Luna Earlier, in the last book. JKR said something about a cousin of Ginny's who she didn't introduce in book four, which she was planning on, and would now have to introduce in the fifth book. Now I know that Luna isn't Ginny's cousin, but that may have changed. What makes me thiunk this is that she said Ginny's cousin, not Ron's cousin or a cousin of the Weasley's. Which suggests a relationship with Ginny.

Here are some quotes.

You said Ron's cousin was taken out of Book 4, and you developed Rita Skeeter more after that. Do you still think that it would have been more fun to keep her? Can you tell me anything about what she was going to be like?
Well, maybe I will use her in another book, so I don't want to talk about her too much. I had never "killed" a character before (in either sense) until Goblet of Fire, so that made writing the book a little more stressful!

and

And what exactly was that gaping hole [in book four] all about?
I had to pull a character. There you go: "the phantom character of 'Harry Potter."' She was a Weasley cousin [related to Ron Weasley, Harry's best friend]. She served the same function that Rita Skeeter [a sleazy investigative journalist] now serves. Rita was always going to be in the book, but I built her up, because I needed a kind of conduit for information outside the school. Originally, this girl fulfilled this purpose.
