JK Rowling replies -> Erm... I don't think so.
So, it seems Snape isn't a vampire and a half vampire. Sorry
If you want the whole interview, just say.
Hmmm... this does make me think.... although just because JKR says that Snape isn't a vampire
in an interview doesn't necisarily make it so. Try to think from JKR's perspective; there were three possible things she could have said in answer to the question:
(1) "Yes, he is a vampire."
Now, there is
no chance she would have said that. If he is a vampire she would have spoiled it. If he isn't, then she would be lying to the public for no particular reason.
(2) "I'm not telling."
Most people would have thought that this response would have been the way to go, but in fact refusing to answer the question makes the answer quite obvious anyway, no? If Snape is a vampire... she can't just not answer the question, 'cos then everyone will know. She has to throw us of somehow. If Snape
isn't a Vampire, she would have just said no outright because she wouldn't be giving anything away.
(3) "No, he is not a vampire."
This is pretty much what we got. According to your post, her exact words were: "Erm... I don't think so". I find the nervous "erm..." quite interesting... So what is my conclusion? I think that we cannot be sure about Snape just yet. I have provided evidence for why response (1) and (2) were impossible for the poor woman, and the response she gave was the only one she really
could give. Either she denied the Snape/vampire connections because it genuinly was the truth, or she dienied it (lying) because she was forced to.
