The Sorting Hat

"platinumstepper" shouts Professor McGonagall from the top of the Great Hall. All the students watch as platinumstepper strides up the centre of the Hall. Suddenly there's a flash from above and a loud BOOM!
"That ceiling is wonderful most times" Hermione whispers to Ron and Harry, "but when there's a thunderstorm outside it can be quite a nuisance!"
A rumble comes from the ceiling as platinumstepper sits on the 3-legged stool by Professor McGonagall, who places the Soting hat on platinumstepper's head.
"Hmmm, I've done my song already but I sense music here - I feel like singing again" says the hat...

"I'm the sorting Hat
not the sorting Cat
I'm really quite nice
and I don't chase mice

If you're wondering
what House to be in
I'll look into your head
and tell you what I've read

My songs will bring
a bright beginning
to every year
for all students here

So give a dash of pepper
to our platinumstepper
and out sorting will be done
it'll be such fun!"

"Pepper?" says McGonagall looking bemused at the Hat.
"Yes please - just in the palm of platinumstepper's hand" says the Hat.
As McGonagall steps over to the teachers' table at the top of the Great Hall she whispers to Hagrid "last time it was jumping all over the place, now it wants condiments!"
hagrid shrugs "Don' worry yerself. I'm sure it's not going ta eat 'er 'and off" says Hagrid.

Before McGonagall has returned with the pepper shaker, the hat has already continued talking "Ah yes, artistic in a musical way this one. A freindly disposition too."
McGonagall returns. "Ah, just in time, professor" says the Hat. Somehow platinumstepper knows that she needs to outstretch her hand and open her palm. McGonagall shakes just over a tablespoon of pepper into platinumstepper's hand before the Hat says "Thank you Professor - that'll be perfect....now, if you could just throw that over me platinumstepper...all in one go please". Platinumstepper throws the pepper over the Hat, who starts sniffing, snuffling, and begins to sneeze. "Huff......HUFF.....HUFFLEPUFF!" sneezes the Hat!
"See..." whispers hagrid to McGonagall "It aint mad - just a little bit o' showmanship!"
"ShowHatship you mean" whispers McGonagall laughing.
