Some good news and some not so good news:
The good news is:
So far it looks like no surgery will be needed!
Even though the broken pieces of bone are not lined up evenly there has been no further movement and because her bones are so little they should heal together and after ten years or so you might not even be able to tell that the bone was broken!
WoooHooo
The not so good news is:
3 months in a cast. The reason it has to be so long is that
#1. She is only four and her bones are growing as they are healing
#2. The severity of the fractures
#3. The fact that the bones are still misaligned
Next Tuesday the Orthopedic Surgeon is going to take the cast that she has now off, try one more time to better align the bones (
This will be a very bad day for her because it is going to hurt a lot!
) then put on a water resistant cast in the color of her choice!
Yes folks they have casts these days that can go in the sprinkler!!
Emily and I thank you for your prayers and well wishes.
She is actually doing much better now that the pain level has evened out a bit.
Oddly she talks about the motorcycles a lot but not in a bad way. She doesn't seem to be afraid of them which is good. Of course she hasn't actually been near one since it happened. Still I marvel at the resilience of children and I am so happy to see her smiling again.
