Some good news and some not so good news:

The good news is:
So far it looks like no surgery will be needed!
Even though the broken pieces of bone are not lined up evenly there has been no further movement and because her bones are so little they should heal together and after ten years or so you might not even be able to tell that the bone was broken!
:double jump: WoooHooo :double jump:

The not so good news is:
3 months in a cast. The reason it has to be so long is that
#1. She is only four and her bones are growing as they are healing
#2. The severity of the fractures
#3. The fact that the bones are still misaligned

Next Tuesday the Orthopedic Surgeon is going to take the cast that she has now off, try one more time to better align the bones ( This will be a very bad day for her because it is going to hurt a lot! ) then put on a water resistant cast in the color of her choice!

Yes folks they have casts these days that can go in the sprinkler!! :drums:

Emily and I thank you for your prayers and well wishes.
She is actually doing much better now that the pain level has evened out a bit.
Oddly she talks about the motorcycles a lot but not in a bad way. She doesn't seem to be afraid of them which is good. Of course she hasn't actually been near one since it happened. Still I marvel at the resilience of children and I am so happy to see her smiling again.

Glad to hear it, Alice! :D I actually had a cast when I was 2 1/2, and I looked really cute in it. But it was a boring white one!

That's not all!
Right now we can't get the one she has on wet at all so consequently she has not had a bath since last Saturday. :o She is beginning to get quite stinky!
We did give her a sort of sponge bath but it was not very effective so I will be quite glad to have the new cast put on her on Tuesday so we can put her in the tub.

Awwww, I'm really glad she's doing so well, Alice!

That's really cool that she can play in the sprinkler and everything! :-) I had a cast when I broke my leg when I was 13, and it was pink... but I couldn't get it wet and had to wear this funny rubber and plastic thing to cover it up in the shower...

Tell her we're proud of her being such a big girl about all this, and give her hugs for us!

I have good news or at least hopeful anyways.!

When Emmy had her last x-ray the orthopedic seems to think that things are healing nicely. In four weeks they will remove the cast and x-ray it again.

If there has been enough healing then she may not have to have a new cast put on! :drums:

At this point we can not keep her down. She keeps trying to walk in her cast but she can't because of the way they bent the knee. (Dr. says this is on purpose!)

So what she does is slide down to the floor from the couch or her wheelchair and push herself along on the floor. We have already had a whole roll of additional cast material added to the heel because she wore it right off.
She goes up and down stairs on her butt and for the last two nights (at around 3 AM) she has actually gotten herself out of bed and pushed herself through the house and up a flight and a half of stairs to our bedroom. Both nights I have woken up to her pulling herself up into our bed on my side!

She insists on doing things for herself and this is a great relief to me. She is no lightweight and when she was still in a lot of pain I was carrying her everywhere and this ripped up my neck and shoulders pretty badly. Now my hands are pretty much numb all the time. Oh well she is doing great and that is worth celebrating about!
