Does Filch respect Dumbledore?

This is my very first pool and I hope you don't feel too limited by options.
But I personally think there is a 50:50 possibility so I'm asking for your opinions & arguments on this topic.
The question was brought up by Evil Wizard Petting Zoo in topic Filch - his dark side:

I dunno about that Filch. *Interesting Fact-Filch means "to steal"* ... Anyways, Filch doesn't like Dumbledore, but I don't know if he respects DD or not, because that makes all the difference in the world. I think Filch could go either way. I can see him being a coward and trying to save his own skin and going to Voldy, or I can see him being brave and taking up with DD even though he doesn't care for him that much.

But, Filch will first take care of his Mrs. Norris or he'll have to deal with me

Filch respects DD as almost everyone does, he just doesn't always agree with DD. I would even argue that Lucius Malfoy Respects DD, because DD earns it which in Lucius's case I think makes him hate DD all the more.

respect is a very strong word.I think Filch acknowledges DD's powers like everyone else, but since he doesnt like to give a mild treatment to students and he isnt given those permissions by DD, he must be a bit bitter.
since there is resentment, i dont see respect from the point of view of devotion but some respect has to be there as DD is a great man, if you get what i mean.

hhhhmmmm....i think that Filch has his own agenda. I think he'll do things for his own benefit rather than for the good of others........on one hand tho he enforces dumbledore's rules...but i suppose that's because it's his job, which is practically the most important thing in his life (apart from mrs Norris) lol. maybe he's slightly jealous of Dumbledore's powers cus Filch is a squib and stuff......hhhmmm

Filch being Scumbridge's partner in sadism ... exactly that made me think he doesn't respect DD, b/c DD praises human integrity (or at least did praise it, before he started to lock ppl up ).

DD is of course a great man, but I think he's just too great to make Filch jealous ... they're an universe apart and ppl are more usually jealous to neighbours, than to legends.

I feel you can also obey an authority and not respect them - you maybe just fear to disobey them, but you think they're foul ... like some DEs must think for Voldie ...

Lucius respects+hates DD?! Good idea, I think yes, but DD feels nothing of that for Lucius, maybe he feels sorry for him?

Yes but in a forced way, i don't think he likes his ways but he has to respect him i guess..

maybe he has to respect dumbledore cuz he's the authority, but i think he doesnt like dumbledore cuz he's leanient with the students

i think he shows a form of fake respect to the authority that DD has. He does not disobey any orders that DD gives, especially with punishments, yet he does not respect DD himself. The rest of the staff was loyal to the DD and what he stood for during his absence. However, Filch went right ahead and joined forces with Umbridge....showing his disrespect towards DD and what he stands for...

I agree, and think that Filch could easily be tempted to the dark side by a cunning dark wizard who offers him the chance to punish students or something like that. The evidence of that is in ootp, because Umbridge was practically on the dark side and Filch was following her like a lamb.

I think to really answer this question AD and Pro.Umb, has to be thought of in the same post.

Well AD may bring a lot of followers from under some rockey stones, but I can't really understand Filch. The things Filch takes most pleasure in will deffently be illegal. That is the 'torture' of young children. Yes I said torture and thats what I think of his ways. But hey enough about that.

I think Filch is a very underground character in that he would 'align' himself to whom ever would allow him to receive his pleasures. This is obivous since other people have included Pro.Umb as 'the one he favours'.

The question thou, would he align himself to LV? I can't see any reason for the LV to use him, unless he is attacked by someone and needs a body. In an atempt to befriend Harry, or at least to learn his weakness, I'm sure he already knows that family and friends are very speical to him, since 'his real life' isn't that plesant (thats to say his life at PrivetD) But I can't see the real benifit of having him on the Dark Side, as of yet there is no evidence that he has any magical powers - maybe he was never trained?

To the main question, that being does Flich respect AD? Thats up in the air I think. I think it takes respect to work for a person, even if you don't like your boss. I guess you could say it is like Pro.Snape and LV, that is he liked what he was doing until it came to doing it, or finding out what LV was really like. (further more I think Snape is a very good character in that he WAS bad but now is GOOD)

So I think Flich is something that comes with the school, and I have a feeling that Flich was there even before AD, but I can't base that on anything.

Filch respects dumbledore, you don't have to like someone to respect them. I also think he still liked Dumbledore, but liked Umbridge more since she could let his little sadistic fantasies run wild

Filch doesn't respect Dumbledore because in book 5 when Dumbledore leaves everyone is upset about it except Filch, who is delighted with all the changes.
