Filtch - his dark side.

Who do you like best and who could you definately live without? Will there be romance in the air for any of them and who will end up with who?

Filtch - his dark side.

Postby Mint » Tuesday 4 November 2003 9:14:49pm

Well, with book 5 we saw the REAL Filtch. I always though his remarks about torturing students were funny, but here - I realized that he was serious!

How can DD trust him? Why does he still keep them around? When Filtch so clearly prefers people like Umbridge.

Do you think Filtch is able to double cross DD or make more troubles for Harry? Will he be a foe in the next books?!?

this is a possibility, however unlikely.
If there is to be a battle for Hogwarts in the 6th or 7th book, this would present an opportunity for LV to get inside Hogwarts. I mean, someone who knows all of the castle's secrets working for you? It would really help LV.
We have to give DD the belifit of the doubt on this one though. He's supposed to be a genius (even if he is starting to show his old age) so he wouldn't be that stupid.
Yet he has been tricked before--- a little too often actually. With Quirrel, and Moody and really Umbridge if you think about it. So I don't know what to think. If Filtch is a DE, then Hogwarts has some trouble ahead.

I have a little doubt over this.... Yes Filch is a nasty piece of work but i think he is only a one dimensional character in the series. However he could yet suprise me...

Oh but Im not saying that Filtch is DE! not at all.

What Im saying is that it is very easy to get FIltch to do smth rather nasty. For example - he supported Umbridge, Im sure that if there will be another person like her in the school - Filtch will support them too.

He probably won't even know he is helping out Voldermort!! He is just not supremely loyal to DD, THUS he may be of great help to other evil folks. Like....he may tell them something, or agree to spy for them. Or who knows, may be even be part of kid's capture or smth.

If some one like Umbridge may say "will u stop that Potter from going to bluh bluh bluh" - he just might follow her advice under DD's nose.

What do DEs think about Squibs? Do they see them as muggles or as one of their own kind? Do they accept him or would Filch rather have to fear the DEs?

i don't think filch is EVIL, rather vengeful... he doesn't like the world for making him a squib. so, perhaps he will do some bad things, but i don't think he will turn out to be a de or anything like that.

I think that given the opportunity filch would actually tortue the hogwarts students as he intended when umbridge was around. But i think that is his only real intention, he doesnt seem to think outside of his job and his bitterness within hogwarts. I dont think that he would do anything unless he was allowed to. he seems to have a strong obligation towards rules.
I think that he would only be seen to be 'evil' would be accidentally. i think that he maybe manipulated by voldermort, or a death eater but wouldnt intentially get in line with voldie

Filch - the Lord Of The Darkness

Postby Reverie Revenge » Saturday 8 May 2004 7:11:14pm

Filch as a Death Eater? Not much of a warrior, just a squib.

But what if ... Imagine Filch to take down his humble mask, defeat LV, defeat DD & Harry and rule the world by the orders of his :cat: Mrs. Norris    Well, I'd love to see an end like this

He is not an one-dimensional personality, he can have warm feelings too - at least for his cat but this counts a lot for me, a helpless :cat: -lover.

But yes, no doubt he's nasty, whipping students is unacceptable as in reality as in the wizarding world  Any violence towards children and women is unacceptable, is my opinion! But Filch wants ''to see some punishment'', like he said when his cat got petrified.
I think he always wants ''to see some punishment'' because he's bitter all the time. And that's his dark side.

Reverie you have dug up some interesting threads.
I do not see Filch as a DE or purposefully going along with the likes of Voldemort at least not knowingly.
I do agree with who ever mentioned that Filch's knowledge of the castle could be a pivotal point of interest in the future books.
He may actually end up being a target for Voldemort. Kidnap Filch and use Legilimency to get all of the information he wants then discard him the way he did old Bertha.

This could give the plot an interesting twist if Harry and crew who hate Filch have to go and save him from the DE's to protect Hogwarts secrets.

Then Filch will have to feel obliged toward Harry and crew; something he would detest immensely.

I dunno about that Filch. *Interesting Fact-Filch means "to steal"* Yall mighta known that but I just looked it up at dictionary.com. Anyways, Filch doesn't like Dumbledore, but I don't know if he respects DD or not, because that makes all the difference in the world. I think Filch could go either way. I can see him being a coward and trying to save his own skin and going to Voldy, or I can see him being brave and taking up with DD even though he doesn't care for him that much.

i agree with reverie, Filch doesnt seem like an about-to-be DE. he is just what JKR has portrayed him to be, a bitter, sadistic squib. he could be fooled and used by the DEs as has been mentioned before, but i think DD would step up the Hogwarts security now.

btw, DD had the Maradeurs map for a certain span, so do you think he now knows of all those secret passages?

Kidnaping Filch is a really coll idea, Alice
Include it in your N°6 :D

You have to be a wizard to ''log in'' the Marauders map. THe spell is: ''I solemny swear I'm up to no good'' :evil grin: . Filch couldn't had opened it because he's a squib. But the twins themselves said Filch might have sime idea why the map is so useful & dangerous. Maybe Snape gave him a hint and Filch couldn't have worked the hint out well?

I think Groo says that Dumbledore had this map. When? But he must know secret ways even without the map, since he's been at Hogwarts for so long and because of his almost all-knowing skills.

Evil Wizard Petting Zoo mentioned sth. very intriguing: does Filch respect Dumbledore??? I have no idea. The chances are 50:50.

This backs up a little but
Any violence towards children and women is unacceptable, is my opinion!

Its not just women and children! Violence towards anyone who is defenseless is completely unacceptable. If a women is capable of self defence then violence toward her is no worse than violence toward a man who is capable of self defence. :o

I'm not a huge womens lib person but I feel that even though I am just a girl, any body threatening me had better watch out. I almost feel sorry for them
