I am thinking along the line that Athena is but different.

OK say the actual color is not so important.
All through history it has been said in many different cultures that the eyes are the windows to the soul.
Maybe the corolation between Lily's eyes and Harry's is the similarities in their personal virtue or their moxy if you will.

Lily was a strong person with a stout heart.
ie: she stood up to the most popular group of boys (The Mauraders) to defend a very unlikable boy from their ridicule. She was not afraid to speak her mind and she obviously had a decient set of morals.

Harry has withstood an entire lifetime of abuse and still stands up for what is right when becaoming a warped and jaded personality could easily have been his fate given his mistreatment he has endured.
ie: When he first meets Draco he tells him point blank that he can figure out who to hang with and who to avoid on his own.

When all of these witches and wizards who personally knew Lily say he has his mother's eyes, maybe they are not just speaking of the color but the fire behind them.

I think you have something there..
the looks of his dad that makes at least snape to hate him but fier and soul of his mom that can detect right and wrong ppl to hang around... and so on..
