I think the bit about Neville's talent in Herbology has served several almost unrecognizable uses. The more obvious one being that Moody gave the book on underwater plants of the mediterranian to Neville, so it would get close to Harry.

However, I think J.K. Rowling has been trying to make Neville come across as a loveable dunce in books 1-4, and we're only beginning to see his transformation. She knew we would be glad he's good at SOMETHING because he's so dismal at everything else, but I think she knew (and was correct in thinking that) we wouldn't take someone who's main talent lies in Herbology as seriously as we would someone who's talent lies in Defense Against the Dark Arts.

I don't think Neville is the chosen one. I don't think Dumbledore had trouble with saying what he was saying because because he was lying (besides, for years and years, he's kept it from Harry without lying, surely he wouldn't sit Harry down, say "Now I'm going to tell you the truth" and then spout out a bunch of lies. No way). I do think Neville needs to start being taken more seriously.

yeah nevilles talents and powerful are going to surface and surface quick! afterall his parents were extremely clever! he will make them proud in the end

wow that is a good neville theory, you had me convinced for a minute. but i dont think JKR will make everything THAT flip-flopped, hence every book is Harry Potter and the whatever whatever, not Neville Longbottom

okay... cuz it sounded from that last post that you were saying that was what J.K.R. had to say about the subject... which would make me wonder: are you on personal speaking terms with J.K.R.? Is she telling you things she's not telling anyone else? If so, I'm afraid I'd have to do this *runs at you with a medicine dropperful of Veritaserum and holds your nose, cuz that's the only way I've found to force someone to take medicine, and my two-year-old is making me an expert on that subject very very quickly * TELL ME ALL YOU KNOW!!!!

Dumbledore was at the Potters death and gave Harry his scar to both protect Harry and fool LV that Harry has been marked as per prophesy.

That's not correct. LV didn't know that the scar protected him because LV never got to hear that part of the prophesy. He only heard the part about a boy born at the end of July to parents that had defied the dark lord three times, will be the one who will destroy him. He didn't hear the rest, because the "spy" was caught and thrown out of the pub before they could hear Sybil say the rest.
