That spot on his nose really does show a lot about the characters...

Ron's poor and dirty.

Mrs. Weasley's a typical mom (did your moms ever spit on a Kleenex and then attack your face with it when you were a kid?)

Hermione notices little problems, and it kind of establishes the dislike between them at the beginning of the series.

Harry notices and really doesn't care.

About Ron's nose, though... in the books, lots of long noses are mentioned... Dumbledore has a long nose, Ron has a long nose, Dobby has a long nose... Winky has a nose "like a tomato"... Snape has a hooked nose. Wonder if there is any connection between noses (also fingers? long fingers are everywhere)

I liked the idea that the spot could be a way to show a connection between Harry's scar and the attention he gets and Rons nose and the attention he gets. (4 people notice Rons nose, I just realised MacGonnagol looks at it as well).

Yeah, that wierd isn't it. I don't really know why all the noses. Unless later on it has to do with the mysetery suurounding the teachers spouses and things. I mean people that would be related would have similiar noses.

A nose is something you notice about a person the first time you meet. It may also help describe their character a little. Snape's hooked nose fits in well wi th greasy hair and insuler personality. I can imagine him as a teenager, shoulders hunched, hair swinging about his face with only his nose protruding.

I know we're talking about noses, but I have another random question. In CoS at the Burrow everyone keeps saying Percy is stuck in his room all the time, that he doesn't gloat about his owls, and that he's acting strangely. At the end when we find out about his girlfriend I guess I thought that was the reason, but now knowing what a shady character he is I wonder if there was something different. I mean, why would just having a girlfriend keep him locked in his room all the time, why would it make him not brag, it seems odd that just having a girlfriend would change his whole personality like that.

Maybe his girlfriend had brought him down to earth a little at the time. Maybe he was already studying, Hermione-like, for his NEWTs.

We do not know he was being shady, he was ambitious yes and followed the course of action that would improve his standing at the ministry. He was offered a very good promotion for someone so young and he was willing to take it because of his ambition. I don't believe he was acting against good though.

Yeah, I agree with Aberforth. I don't think he was being shady, really, just acting in a different way than what we see as good. He is around the ministry folks a lot, so he would naturally take things from their point of view. He hears Dumbledore's off his rocker and Harry's violent and nuts, and out of genuine concern for his little brother, he writes a letter that helped everyone hate him even more. He's pompous, he's arrogant, but he's not a bad guy, really...

Think about this, too... the time span we're talking about is all before Percy is even twenty years old. To a ten-year-old it would seem like a twenty-year-old is a full-grown adult set in his or her ways, but only 4 years later, I'm a LOT different than I was when I was twenty. Percy's still impressionable. I do hope he can swallow his pride and join the ranks of the Order with his family, now that he's heard the truth from someone he obviously admires (Fudge).
