Flight lessons

I'm not sure if it has been discussed, but do the students have any flight lessons other than the very first one? Do they have any other sports lessons at all appart from the Quidditch tournament?

as far as we know, quidditch is the only sport at Hogwarts. you might count dueling, but that's more of just defense. wizard chess, i guess, but that's just for fun, also. anyway, i hope that that answers your question.

i think they had more. probably not mentioned! i can't see the point of having lessons after the first year though cos once you get taught how to fly and get the gist of it theres no need to take anymore

Yeah... I think these lessons were to decide which of them could be part of the quidditch team! That would normally happen in the end of the year, but Harry was choosed right in his first (or so) lesson!

I would say that there are more flying lesson (from the film Hooch said it was their first, not their only). Harry probably never needed another one since he was a natural.

I`m inclined to agree with highsorceror, harry would``t need any more flight lessons, but I imagine that hermione did quite a few more!

i thik there are more but they arn't emportent as the first lesson. and if someone havent learn by the end of the year there are privet lessons

i think they get them all through 1st year but j.k didn't mention them in the book because there wasn't anything interesting to say. also they wouldn't have all them shooting stars just for 1 lesson a year.

I know this doesn't really count, but in the Chamber of Secrets video game (I know... it doesn't even sort-of follow the story or mood of the book), Madam Hooch says that some of them (looking at Neville) need extra lessons to learn to fly... I assume it's something standard every witch or wizard is supposed to learn to do... *shrug*

In one of the books, I think it's in OotP when Umbridge is taking away all clubs and stuff, it's mentioned that there's a school-sponsored Gobstones club. I know it doesn't count as a sport (I think gobstones is similar to marbles, but I really have no idea) but it does show that there are other extra-curricular stuff at Hogwarts...

I also thought about this. J.K. Rowling never mentioned any other flying lessons. That one flying lesson didn't seem nearly enough to learn how to fly and be good at it....

Especially Harry because he was taken out of the lesson by Professor McGonagall and didn't learn anymore (not that he needed it, but still).

i think we didn't hear anymore, because if we did the books would be thousands of pages long...i mean if we heard about every type of lesson the books would be boring and HUGE....we wanted to read about Harry and the Sorcerors stone, not about Hermione falling off her broom or something...

that depends on what part of P/SS she fell off her broom... before Halloween, I wouldn't have minded reading about Hermione falling off a broomstick...

i suppose there would have been more flight lessons. Neville for instance would need several to master flying.

i have another query. does everybody get to play in the quidditch grounds or does only the house team do? i think that there are reserved timings for house teams and others can do so in unoccupied times but then how does Severus Snape give special permission for Slytherin to practise in CoS when he is clearly violating the timings? how does he have the power? or maybe he is just a git
