New Minister for Magic

Postby Aberforth » Thursday 4 March 2004 5:22:13pm

Just read a webchat with JKR (the link being provided very kindly by Violet) and she states that there will be a new Minister or Magic.

1) Why will Fudge leave the position (will he jump or be pushed, or killed)?

2) Who will take over?

Several people have mention Arthur Weasley in other threads. I don't see it happening though - he has no power within the ministry and if it work like the uk government, the leader is elected by other government officials. But maybe there is an election and Arthur stands.

Check it out:

I am one of the people who believe Arthur Weasley will eventually be Minister of Magic... got a little bit of evidence to back that up.

1. I think Fudge will be forced to resign. He's made a couple tiny blunders, like letting Voldemort have time to get some power.

2. We've learned that Ron's jokes should be taken seriously (but don't ever assume that his real theories are true, as he's almost always wrong)... Ron makes a joke that "dad as about as much chance of becoming minister of magic as" something happening (I forgot what the something was). I do know, though, that the something happened. So, following the rule that has so far been a good rule to follow in coming up with theories, that Ron's jokes should be taken seriously, I think Arthur will become minister of magic.

3. While he doesn't have much respect with the higher-ups, the higher-ups will (I believe) be forced to resign, or they (like Lucius Malfoy) are in Azkaban. Arthur has the respect of most everybody he meets, though, because he's very fair. When he and Harry are at the Ministry, he would stop to talk to people, or people would stop to talk to him, so he's well-known and respected.

If the Minister of Magic is chosen from the other people working in the Ministry, I think he'd stand a good chance of getting it. If it's by a general vote, I think he'd stand a good chance of getting it.

I think the ministry will turn to Dumbledore to recommend someone. He'll choose Arthur Weasley because he can trust him and, well, Arthur Weasley deserves it!

I think that the Weasly do need a little boost in popularity and it would spite all the Bloodtraitor-haters, or even Dumbledore might become MoM because Voldemort is afraid of him, so people will want him for support

I don't think Dumbledore would accept it if it was offered. He turned it down once and he is busy enough at Hogwarts. Besides, I think he will be giving Harry private lessons in something in book 6/7 - maybe occlumency if Snape won't do it, or maybe some other advanced magic outside the normal curriculum.

I dont think that dumbledore would accept as he already has far too much to contend with in hogwarts and with the order.
I think arthur weasley would be perfect, and like athena said i think that a lot of the higher ups will be forced to resign.

I agree with most here, that Arthur Wealsey would make a good Minster for Magic.

But how would this affect his relationship with Percy? Will Percy now see his father is a good man or will it be Arthur's position which causes him to acknowledge him?

Will it push him further away or bring him back to he Weasley's?
:-?

well percy's loyalty is with his job, not with his family, and arthur and the rest of the weasley's would see percy as very fickle for all of a sudden coming back to them simply because arthur is in power.
but i think he would definately make an attempt to get back in with them, in his mind it would improve his status in the ministy with his dad as minister

Finally! I've been looking for this section for almost 2 hours and I finally found it. I honestly think Arthur will become MoM. Ron says in chapter Careers Advice in OotP "We've got as much chance of winning the Q cup this year as Dad's got of becoming MoM". It just seems odd. I remember even the first time I red OotP it stood out. I also wondered if anyone wanted to open a thread for things Ron's said that have come true. Or even things the Weasleys have said that have come true, because I think Fred and George and possibly Molly may have some talent for predictiong the future.

I'll do it, but you know, right off the bad y'all can post new threads... I've seen in a couple different threads people asking if "someone wants to"... like Nike says: JUST DO IT! :-)

I personally am leaning towards Lucius Malfoy becoming Minister of Magic. Just because he has so much power and control over people. I mean look at themethods of power he used when making those people (forget who they are :???: ) sign those papers to send Hagrid to Azkaban in Book 2. He threatened to curse their families. He could most likely do something evil and cunning to win his place at the top.

Of course then again there is the fact that people won't allow him to become Minister of Magic because practically everyone beleives him to be a Death Eater. But then once again that might give him more power over the people. Being Voldermort's supposed right hand...

But I thought Lucius Malfoy is currently in Azkaban? And I believe the nomination made by Dumbledore will be taken into much deeper consideration than Malfoy's threats.

Yes but a true Slytherin will use any means to get what he wants. So I guess the question is whether Malfoy wants the position or not?

But yeah, Dumbledore is what counts.

If Malfoy were to become MoM, it would be for a very short stint, seeing as he wouldn't exactly be having the support of the general wizarding public since his little visit to Azkaban for being a Death Eater.
