Ime 18 xronon (Είμαι 18 χρονών) ---> I'm 18 years old
Sagapo (Σ'αγαπώ)---> I love you

Athina (Αθήνα)---> Athens (the capital of Greece)

Ah Joto, you're right!
Guess I have typed wrongly...haha
Japanese vowels:
A (ah) I (ee) U (oo) E (air) O (or)
for example,

Yuugi is pronounced as YU (you) U (oo) GI (gee)

Hey, Selenia! Thanx for the words...Actually, I was asking for the first numbers in greek! But I already know them.

ένα
δύο
τρία
τέσσερα
πέντε
έξι
επτά
οχτώ
εννέα
δέκα

Is that correct? And How do you say the next numbers? Are there simple rules to read the numbers??

yes it is!! :D well, it's a bit difficult to read some numbers. actually, greek is one of the most difficult languages in the world! god we're geniuses!
but I'll try to explain and if you want I will send you a pm with the numbers 1-100. do you want me to do this?
for example:
11 έντεκα (this number is -how can I say that- irregular)
12 δώδεκα (-"-)
13 δεκατρία
14 δεκατέσσερα
15 δεκαπέντε
16 δεκαέξι
17 δεκαεπτά
18 δεκαοκτώ
19 δεκαεννιά
20 είκοσι
(then if you want to caunt from 20-29 is easy cause the only thing you need to do is to say : "εικοσι" and the next number : "ένα, δύο, ect" for example : εικοσι-ένα, εικοσι-δύο, εικοσι-τρία etc. The same thing happens for 30: τριαντα-, 40:σαραντα-, 50:πενηντα-, 60:εξηντα-, 70: εβδομηντα-, 80:ογδοντα-, 90: ενενηντα-)

[100: εκατό]

also you need to know these:
ν+τ= d
γ+κ= gh
and many many other things that I can't remember now  but if you need to know sth or have any questions you can ask me freely!

You have a word that is only a 'v'? weird!!!! I always thought words would need at least one vowel!

It's only a preposition. Anyway, try to pronounce these words:

zmrzlina (ice-cream)
stvrtok (Thursday)

Wow... in portuguese, every syllabale has, at least, a vowel. And 4 consonants following each other are rare: monstro is the only one I can remeber right now... (it means, as you might guess, monster...)[/b]

And š? like sh?

In portuguese, it would go as follows:
0 - zero
1 - um
2 - dois
3 - três
4 - quatro
5 - cinco
6 - seis
7 - sete
8 - oito
9 - nove
10 - dez

Joto wrote:How do you read č? like tch?

č is something like tch.We have č (tch) and ć (ch) and š(sh-like in Stasha) ž(I think there is no similar voice in English :???: ) đ(it is like first letter of the name John) and dž (like fist letter of the name George)

And there's a difference between đ and dž? I'd say John and Goerge both begin with the same sound...

Anyway, Portuguese alphabet is very similar to the english: we don't have k, w and y and we have ç (just like the freanch one, sounds like s in sunday...) and have three accents: ´, `, ^... they are used in a very peculiar way and are used for both stress and height of the vowel...
finally, we have the ~, which is used to nasalize (sp) the vowel, which means that irmã sounds like irman and João (me me me) sounds like Joo - an - oo...[/i]

Hi there! :D
Wow! I love this thread! Muito obrigada, Jotomicron, gosto de aprender coisas noutras linguas.
Maybe I messed it up a bit... it may be more Galician than Portuguese.

I have a question for the French: do you have any trouble understanding English stuff about Harry Potter? (in case you read the French versions, that are so different in names and stuff like that)

Now, some kisses in the languages I know:
Moitos bicos! ¡Muchos besos! Plein de bisous! Many kisses!

I'll learn a bit more... just for you ;)
