 Awww, I was just visiting the Common Rooms but one of the Houses hasn't left any answers for me to pick up at all.

If it's OK with Slytherin, to give a chance for the House in question to have a try, I'll extend the deadline for just over another 24 hours from now, to 11.00 on Sunday 22nd February. Does that sound alright and fair to give them a final chance?

Hmmm, this poses a real problem. :-? No one in Slytherin wants to penalize Hufflepuff, but yet, what about Gryffindor and Ravenclaw who have finished the quiz? :???: If the houses aren't active enough, should we be doing quizzes? It hardly seems fair to put people on the spot for quizzes if there are houses who can't do them to lack of activity at that time.

What do you think? :???:

Well i think that all the houses have times when members are less active, as you well know ginny slytherin isnt that active all the time, yet we managed to create the quiz.
Maybe we give hufflepuff another couple of days then if they still dont have any answers we go ahead.
The quiz has been on hold for a long while now, and if we keep putting it off just because a house is quiet then it'll never actually happen.

This is true...I guess we all just do the best with what we've got...and you're right, we aren't super active (but loads of fun!), and we managed to make the quiz. :D The quiz was fun to make!

The good news is that Hufflepuff have given their answer to one of the questions :double jump: (I won't confirm whether it's right or wrong yet).

Yes, there has been one alteration to the deadline to make it 11.00PM yesterday...how about we give it a very final deadline of 11.00PM GMT tomorrow (which would tally with the suggested extra couple of days) and make this the very last chance?

Gryffindor and Ravenclaw who have finished the quiz?

Gryffindor still need to try on question 1 by the way. :)

Yes, well-done to everyone! The answers have been collected and here we go with the quiz results.

The questions, plus the answers that Slytherin provided were...
  1. Q: What made a sound similar to an automobile signal?
A: The stairs to the girls’ dormitory produced a klaxon-like sound before melting to make a slide.
    OotP, Br. Ver., Ch. 17, p. 314
  2. Q: What negative influence may Crabbe’s physical strength have had on his career?
A: If he had unintentionally suffocated Neville at Umbridge’s office, Snape would have had to mention it on his job reference.
    OotP, Br. Ver. , Ch. 32, p. 657
  3. Q - What magical creature is Millicent Bulstrode contrasted with?
    A- Pixie
    Book 2, Ch. 12, p. 162 British version
  4. Q- Which of the Fat Lady's friends winked at Bill from a portrait?

    A- Violet
Goblet of Fire, Chapter 31, Page 535
  5. Q- What nationality was the seller of the three-headed dog?
    A- Greek
    Book 1, Ch. 11, p. 141 British version

Question 1 was a particularly difficult one. However, athough no House got the dormitory stairs, other references to things that made a sound similar to an automobile signal were found by Ravenclaw and Gryffindor. Ravenclaw answered with Professor Sprout's Honking Daffodills ('we took her some daffodils - not the honking ones that Sprout's got, nice ones.')| OOTP: chapter 27: page 528: UK Hardback. Gryffindor chose to answer with the sound of Ron's car while rescuing Harry and Ron from Aragog in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets page 237 chapter XV(Aragog)(S. ed). I've checked my UK paperback copy, page 207, and the car is indeed described as "thundering down the slope with, headlamps garing, its horns screeching". Soooo... what to do? After much thought I've decided that Gryfindor and Ravenlaw can't be deemed wrong in their answers as if you ask yourself "What made a sound similar to an automobile signal?", the Honking Daffodils and Ron's car both could be correct. However, I don't think we actually heard any daffodils honking, and Ron's car didn't quite make a sound similar to an automobile signal as it is an automobile. Therefore I'm going to give Ravenclaw and Gryffindor one and three quarter points each for their answers, and Slytherin a quarter point for each of Gryfindor and Ravenclaw's almost-correct-but-not-quite answers. Slytherin also scores a further 2 points as Hufflepuff didn't answer this question. No points to Hufflepuff for this one therefore.

Question 2 was answered totally correctly by Ravenclaw, including correct book and page references, so Ravenclaw score the full 2 points. Gryffindor suggested that Crabbe's physical strength may have an affect on him getting a girlfriend. Although this may or may not be true, and is a brave try at answerng, unfortunately a girlfiend and a career are usually different things so I'm sorry, Gryffindor score zero points along with Hufflepuff who did not answer this question. Slytherin score 4 points from Gryfindor's incorrect answer and from Hufflepuff.

Question 3 was answered absolutely correctly by both Ravenclaw and Gryffindor who each score the full 2 points. Hufflepuff did not answer, so Slytherin score 2 points.

Violet was identified correctly by Gryffindor and Ravenclaw as the friend of The Fat Lady who winked at Bill. They each score 2 points for a correct answer and page and chapter locations. Slytherin scores 2 points from Hufflepuff as Hufflepuff did not answer this one.

And there was successs to all of the answering Houses for question 5. Hufflepuff (well-done!) , Ravenclaw and Gryffindor all answered correctly that Fluffy's seller was Greek.

As an interesting footnote, Ravenclaw mentioned that in the movie, Hagrid says he bought Fluffy an Irish chap, which apparently was a typo on the part of the scriptwriter. Ravenclaw thought that what the book says is what counts though, but thought they'd mention it anyway (an extra interesting fact and something I'd never realised!).

Sooo...with all those points flying around, how do they all add up?
:typing:

Total points in the first Harry Potter Quiz of the new Term
Slytherin score 10 and a half points
Ravenclaw score 9 and three quarter points
Gryffindor score 7 and three quarter points
Hufflepuff score 2 points
:double jump:

Congratulations to Slytherin who have taken the lead with their questions!
:jump: :drums: :jump:

But, Ravenclaw, being the answering House who score the most points now have the chance to set the questions for the next quiz.

Well done, in fact, to everyone! :double jump: All the houses scored House Points this quiz, which is a positive thing and hasn't always happened. It's only the start so all Houses still have everything to play for.

Over to you Ravenclaw for the next quiz. :)
