Trelawny

Who do you like best and who could you definately live without? Will there be romance in the air for any of them and who will end up with who?

What will become of her. I think I remember reading that she'll be around and she'll co-teach divination.

Any ideas of what may become of her. I personally think she has somewhat a important role in the book because she has made some real prophecies, maybe dumbledore is keeping her around because she'll make some more.

I think that there was a thread in the theories section of this forum that have this speculation Trelawny was kept in Hogwarts for her own protection. This is because she made the true prediction for the demise of Lord Voldemort by Harry Potter and Voldemort's spy had only heard half of the prophecy, so he might capture Trelawny to make her reveal the rest of the prophecy.

Of course, Dumbledore might also believe that she might make more true predictions (which she did) and did not want these getting out to the general public/ Voldemort...

Still, all Trelawny's prophecies have been related to Voldemort so far... I wonder if she has some connection to him...?

I believe she has some weird gift to make these prophesies...and since she is not a very good teacher (obviously, since Umbridge did not like any of the teachers, but she only booted Trelawney) DD only hired her to make sure any prophesies coming from her did not reach enemy hands...

how can she be tortured to reveal the prophesy she made about the demise of voldewart when she denies the two real prophesies she ever made?

I think voldemort knows that the prophet cannot repeat the prophecy. Why else would he try to go to the department of mysteries and try to steal the orb. He knows that thats the only place where he can hear the prophecy. spekaing of which, the second prophecy that trelawny made, is that also at the department of mysteries?

hmmmm.... i don't think it was recorded... i took it to mean that the only person who can record it is the person who gave it (and Trelawney wouldn't have done that because she denies having prophesied something like Voldythingy coming back) and the person who heard it (and we know Harry hasn't, so far, recorded it)... But I guess it would depend on how prophesies are recorded... if it's, like, an automatic thing, then it could be....

a little off topic, but are the prophesies that had gone dark on the shelves prophesies that have been fulfilled?

Interesting, perhaps we'll find out. there are a lot of questions from the department of mysteries.

I was rereading this thread and I like what June had to say:

Maybe there is a connection!!!!!!!

"Tiny, yellowing labels had bee stuck beneth each glass orb on the shelf. Some of them had a weird, liquid glow; others were as dull and dark within as blown lightbulbs.

I completely missed that (which does not surprises me, because I read the book very quickly...)
Anyway, My OotP has only 766 pages... I've spent some minutes trying to search your quote: page 686 in the English hardback children version, first edition.

Oh,yeah, sorry, I knew that...

Okay, it's in chapter 34 (the department of mysteries), after they've found the room with the prophesies and right before Harry realizes Sirius isn't at row #97 like he thought he was.
