If you haven't seen the movie yet, you might not want to read it. I might be spoiling something for you...

I just came back from seeing it, and actually, I thought that the first movie was better. I think that although all the HP books have sort of similar plots (big baddie causes trouble, Harry saves the day) the stuff about the classes and everything else makes each book seem different and more interesting. But in the movies, since they have a time limit, they can only show the main plot, and so the 2nd movie seems a lot like the 1st. Don't get me wrong, I love the books, and I know that they are all different, it's just that the movie seemed unoriginal. It's hard to explain...well, I don't know...I think the movie loses a lot of the fun of the book

And of course, I can't help but be bothered by all the differences between the book and the movie, and am amazed that JK could have allowed such changes. (Sorry to nitpick, but is it so hard to get peoples' hair color right? Grrr....) And Ron seemed like such a coward. I love his character but in the movie he seems constantly scared by something. Oh, one more thing...the musical score was exactly the same!

Nevertheless, I didn't mind watching it, and I look forward to seeing how the 3rd movie turns out. (Don't think that I hated the movie, I just watched it with a critical eye I guess. The actors still did a good job, Lucius was wonderfully evil, and the special effects were better than I had expected) If you've seen it: what did you think? And if you haven't: go see it!

BTW, I've read Ender's Game and it is really good. The idea is creative.

Well, I can tell you--it's awesome! I can't wait to see it again. Kenneth Branagh was so hilarious as Lockhart (I love it when he throws his little green cloak to the girls) and Fawkes looks perfect!

Did anyone else notice--Malfoy got cute! Ack, i can't believe I'm saying it (he's still evil and mean and icky) but he's a little hottie! And Ron and Harry! I never thought before for Harry 'Oh, he's cute' (though I always did for Ron, the adorable thing) but now I kept thinking it over and over. ;)

Not enough of Oliver Wood though! *lol* And Lucius Malfoy's hair was all wrong and they took out the de-gnoming and Sir Nick's Deathday party. But besides that--spectacular! I loved it and I'm going to see it again this weekend!

Did anybody else cry? I did on three parts--when Fawkes is shedding magic phoenix tears on harry (that little bird--he's such a lovely bird!) and when Hagrid was comforting Hermione about how Malfoy called her a mudblood--(she looked too cute and little and sad) and the very end--with Hagrid coming back and all. I crumble whenever he gives Harry a hug--and the clapping is spectacular. :D Wonderful! Much better than the first.

I just got home from seeing the Chamber of Secrets for the first time. I LOVED IT! It was *so* much better than the first movie (though I can't really place why). I didn't care for Ginny - I can't place what I dislike about her, but I do. But it was an excellent movie and I can't wait to go see it again. The ending was also mucho better than the first movie's ending. And the acting was alot better.

The extra lil scene...meh. It could've been better, it really coulda. In fact, it was kinda lame. It wouldn't have been so bad if I hadn't had to sit through 10 minutes of effing credits. And personally, I didn't find it very worth the time I spent sitting there. ^^;;;

^--My reply in the other thread. I think it's better cuz the acting was better. The characters were more developed and there was more meat on the bone, so to speak.

And I almost cried. I got emotional in the part with Fawkes crying on Harry's wound and where everyone is applauding for Hagrid.

did anybody notice that at the end of the movie when Lucius goes to cast a curse on Harry what he actually says sounds an awful lot like Avada as in Avada Kadavra and then after dobby has blown him off his feet he staggers back to his feet and tells harry that someday he will meet the same sticky end as his parents (i.e. the Avada Kadavra curse which it sounded like he just tried to do)??

I DID! I DID!!!!!

I told my sister, as soon as we were out of the theatre--I'm like "You know when Lucius Malfoy was going to cast a spell on Harry? You know what it sounded like? Avada Kedavra. The Death curse."

I swear that's what he said...scary, isn't it? :o Ack. Talk about getting angry.

He's a Death-Eater anyway, you just know it. :x

I've seen it twice already and I didn't notice that Lucius said "Avada" the first time I saw it. That was too cool!

Tom Felton (Draco) got so tall! and he is HOT! So is Lucius! I was SOOOO happy that they gave Snape more lines and I LOVE the part where he uses "Espelliarmus" on Lockhart and sends him flying across the stage! That totally ROCKED!

The whole movie was WAY better than the first, in my opinion, because the first movie is mostly an introduction and the acting really wasn't all that great. But it was way better now!

I couldn't believe how much Hermione changed... she looks like a young woman, not a little girl. :) And Dobby wasn't as bad as I thought.. he was so cute!

That movie kicked major butt. I have to see it at least 3 more times.

I saw the movie on the Saturday after it came out. I liked it a lot more than the first. It wasn't great but it was a lot better. I just got upset about how they cut out parts of the book. I'll have to see it again to see what Lucious says, I sin't notice it. It would make a lot of sense. The movies are definately getting better. I hope that the third movie is better, I love that book.

Sorry this is two posts in a row but I forgot to say that the end of the movie made it so obvious that there was something between Hermione and Ron. I just about screemed at that part. The thing that bugged me the most was how they cut out Percy's girlfriend Penelope. I loved it when you found out he had a girlfriend. It was so sweet.

Percy makes me laugh.

One part I really loved was when Harry (as crabbe or Goyle, I forget) is still wearing his glasses, and Malfoy says "Why are you wearing glasses?" And he says "Uhhh...reading..." and takes them off, and Malfoy says:

"I didn't know you could read..." Then shrugs.

I just cracked up--our whole audience did.

I watched the film last Saturday and yes, I enjoyed it, but there are some things that annoy me:
1. They cut out so many scenes - the Deathday Party for example or St Valentine's Day. It would have been so much fun to see Lockhart proposing that Snape makes a love potion... oh, and Ginny's Valentine :-) ...
2. The music was way worse than in the first film, I had the impression it was always the same theme playing...
3. It was not scary enough. I mean, in the book you really have to keep your fingers crossed for Harry when he has to fight with his eyes closed and when he thinks he is going to die because of the poison. And the spiders should have been more frightening...

And - one more thing - my friends and me were the only ones who stayed till the end to see the last scene! The others might have thought we were crazy... *lol*

I totally agree with you Broccoli, they cut out to many scenes and it wasn't scary enough. The music didn't really bother me though, Ididn't really notice it. One thing that bothered me a lot was the way hagrid responded to harry when he asked why he was in knockturn alley. He responded in a way that really makes you think he wasn't looking for flesh eating slug repelent. It was also weird the way he told them to follow the spiders. In the book it seems more like hes saying it as a way of defense but in the movie it seemed like he was telling someone who was hiding in the corner. I just really didn't like those two scenes entirely actually. I loved Mrs. Weasley!!! She was so perfect. Idid not however like the howler. It wasn't like what I thought it would be at all. I also didn't like the way Lockhart didn't seemed so fake in the movie. I mean he wasn't even kind of convincing. I guess thats the way its supposed to be but I always imagined him a little convinceing.

One of the scenes that they wrote out that I would have loved to see was when Nearly Headless Nick gets petrified and they have to use a giant fan to get him to the hospital wing. I always thought that was so funny. The main thing I didn't like about this book was it didn't give you a sense of what was going on between Harry and the rest of the school. It mentioned the fact that most of the school was afraid of him but they didn't show it. They did that to a lot of things though.

Here I am writing this big long post about what I din't like about the movie. You may find it hard to believe, but I did like the movie. I especially liked the end when Hermione hugged Harry but not Ron. I am now posotive that Ron and Hermione have got fealings for eachother. In the books there are hints at it but nothing so obvious.

MORE SCARY!!! no way...they were quite terrifying enough thanks...i was sat in the second row first time i watched and i thought...yay...all spiders gone...and then....that one grabbed ron and i leapt out of my seat and very nearly screamed....OMG!! too scary!!! specially them dangling ones...aaaaaaaaaargh!!! when ron shows harry the ones above its like...hide under the seat time...not that i did cos im too big to fit under the seat...but ugh....dangling spiders....aaaaaargh!!!!

second time round i was sat further back and well prepared but half the cinema sitting below me screamed

and star light...i thought those two scenes were perfect...thats exactly the impression i got from the book....hagrid definately doesnt say it in defense...hes tells harry and ron that they have to follow the spiders and look after fang.....same with the way dumbledore tells them stuff... i just checked...the hut scene is identicle to the book so it must be right.....

and they did show the school was afraid of him....the scene in the classroom/whatever it was immediately before the intermission/finding nearly headless nick petrified is that...note all the students watching him but looking away the instant he turns round....and whispering...if thats not people being scared of him then what is it??

I agree, they were scary enough already! Scarier!

If they did, anyway, it would have probably gotten a PG-13 rating. That would cause uproar...

I wish it were PG-13, then annoying little bratty kids wouldn't be screaming and talking while you're trying to watch the movie. Sometimes I feel turning around and shouting in their face 'SHUT UP! I'M TRYING TO WATCH THE MOVIE!'. They are annoying!!
