The Magical Squib

Postby Athena Appleton » Wednesday 28 January 2004 5:03:35am

J.K. Rowling said in an interview that someone who can't do magic will use magic in an upcoming book... who do you think it is, and why?

Mrs. Figg?
Petunia?
Dudley?
Mr. Filch?
Mr. or Mrs. Granger?

I personally think it will be Petunia... don't know why, but I think there's a LOT more to her past than we know of right now... Somethin's weird about the "horsey" lady...

I doubt it would be Mrs Figg somehow, if she had any magic in her I'm sure it would have surfaced during the Dementor stuff at the start of book 5.....

i think Filch or Petunia seem the most likely really out of that list....because we havent heard anything about Hermione's parenets other than that they are dentists and sometimes go to Diagon alley and get cornered by Arthur....I think its more likely to be somebody who appears more

Yeah, it will probably be filch or Petunia. Can't be Dudley because i think he would have used it earlier. Maybe Filch has finally managed to learn something from that Qwikspell course?

Hagrid isn't a squib, he does know how do magic, just doesn't do it often.

I'm definately thinking it'll be Petunia. The more I read, the more I realize that that woman most likely has some magical blood in her.

Lol, heres a thought. Pertunia joins the wizzarding world.
It would scare her to death, although not unlikely and probably my first choice.

Thing that gets me most is her saying she heard about Azkaban when James mentions it in passing to Lily. Is that really something she would remember for over 15 years from just hearing about it once?

Ooo that is a good point...why would anyone who doesn't want anything to do with the wizarding world remember the wizard prison and lest alone its name?

I would agree that it would scare Pertunia to death, knowing she can do magic. I wonder what the Dursleys would do?

I definitely think it's Petunia...

Filch is all surronded by magic and if he was to do some, later in the books, he would have already done it...

Dudley, he would have used it, at least in the fifth book, where he shouts Harry to shut up

Mrs Figg might be the one... but somehow, I belive in Petunia more than in her!

Now... about the fact Petunia hasn't forget about Azkaban... do you think she keeps in touch with a wizard? Who? Her parents (just a thought)? Dumbledore? Somebody else, like a DE (nah... not probably...)? Hmm!!!

BTW, nice thread, Athena! Keep up the good work!

*takes a deep bow* Thank you! My husband has decided I should go to school and major in English Literature, I get so into this stuff (Alice in Wonderland is a lot of fun for the philosopher, too!)

NOW... Dumbledore's howler...

What was "his last"? Hogwarts communicated with the Dursleys in book 2 (after Ron and Harry wreck the Whomping Willow, letters are sent to their families). So I don't think "his last" was the letter he left with her when Harry was a baby. I DEFINATELY think Petunia (but probably not Vernon) is in contact with the wizarding world...

Yep, Ptunia seems the ideal candidate, and if she really was a Squib, it would explain her hatred for the wizarding world, not unlike Filch hates students because he is a Squib... And being Lily`s sister makes thing a lot more possible.

well i think that there is definately a chance that lily could be magical, but i dont think that because she's related to lily that would have impact on whether or not she's got any magical ability
