Good point there about the 'Heart on the sleeve" Voilet High!

Hrmmm, so what would Snape class as showing emotion...

I'd say definately whatever made him change sides... I cant' see him changing to DD's side due to something he got angry with Voldie about. More likely that he a)started feeling sorry for someone or some people, b)wanted to protect someone he cared about c)couldnt' hack the killing anymore? (okies, gettting desperate here!!!)

And if the first one is (like I guess) about rejection from Lily, then that would be having people see that he cared about someone other than himself (not avery slytherin/DE thing to do!) (Oh, no offence to Slytherin)

So, for a potential third.... Hrmmmm.... wonder if he's ever cried about anything??? :???: POssibly a bad school result, that really got to him, and due to stress, waterworks??? (okies, getting desperate I know!!! )

well harry has already seen him cry i think...
durring one of his occlumency lessons he managed to do a shield charm and as result he saw some of snapes memories, one of which being:
OoTP: Seen and Unforseen wrote:a hook-nosed man was shouting at a cowering woman, while a small dark haired boy cowered in the corner

I think that that was Snapes Dad shouting at his mum, so while i dont think that snape would want harry to see that, i think that it must be something much bigger for him to warrant him emptying his mind into a pensive.
I think it could well be his work for the order that he doesnt want harry to see, i mean it culd be an argument for him actually still working for the dark lord because if harry ever saw that then it would ruin everything for snape

I think i may have just found something which flaws ideas of snape loving lily.... this was from the incident with the pensieve:
OoTP: Snape's Worst Memory wrote:"You're lucky Evans was here, Snivellus -"
"I dont need help from filthy little Mudbloods like her"

So i'm guessing that he wasnt actually one of her fans to be honest, sounds kinda like the relationship between Malfoy and Hermione to me, except well Snape had no friends at all!

Well, I was thinking that... remember like hwen you were younger, before you actually admitted that you 'liked' someone of the oppisite s*x, that to hide the fact that you liked them, you used to say nasty things like that... Kind of, or possibly anyways?

I was thinking that it was something like that, and that Snape didn't want anyone to know that he liked Lily, possibly because he wasn't good with admitting feelings, or possibly because she was a 'mudblood', as he so eloquently put it!

I don't think so - if even thick ones like Crabbe and Goyle were pretty close to Voldie, then Snape had to be close too - there aren't loads of brainy DE - as far as we know only Lucius, Snape, Crouch (dead). Bella's too mad to think clearly :(

Mistress Siana's right with her 3 reasons - Snape was abused, lonely, depressed young man. DD  wouldn't use such person for spying on DEs but Voldie would abuse him - with pleasure :evil grin: (((I like the inner demons metaphor  )))

About showing emotions and Snape...

The Maradeurs called him Snivellus which would suggest that he used to cry a lot, possibly as a child. They must have made fun of him or something similar and afterwards he ended up hiding his emotions. The same could have been with Lily (though I don't believe he fancied her), he hid his emotions and insulted her so just he wouldn't be hurt.

On the other hand, he doesn't hide his anger and hatred (e.g. towards Potters or Sirius) that much. Maybe they're too strong and he simply can't, I don't know.
