I never learned Dutch but I understand a lot, because it is very similar to German.

Okay, I admit, if you use your knowledge of english and german, it's not that difficult.
But I've heard that learning Dutch when you're a foreigner is difficult.

For example, this sentence:
Ik heb je wel in de gaten! *I know what you are up to!

If you'd translate each word literally, you'd get 'I have you in the holes!' heehe
We apparently use figurative speech a lot,

Gecko, I've just been learning dutch for a few weeks because I'm planning to study in the Netherlands. I don't think the grammar will be that much of a problem because it's very similar to german, but the pronounciation is kinda difficult! I don't believe I'll ever be able to speak it without accent...

The best thing I know is Spanish.

me gusta el color verde - it's pretty much everything I can say in Spanish BUT I understand a lot, it's not a hard language to understand, especially when one speaks English and a bit of French and Italian...

I know how to speak: Portuguese (My mother tongue), English, Spanish, something (not to much) of French and, as stated before, I know some sentences in Italian and Japanese:

well, there really are many different languages in this forum, and what's best is the quantity of french people here.

Japanese is hard to translate into english because the meaning is usually lost thru translate...the closely language it can get to is mandarin
