Snape's secret

Postby Jotomicron » Monday 15 September 2003 9:32:47am

Well, I don't know if anyone has thought about it, or if there is another post with it... But i think the ideia is such a great one :) that i must write it on my own.

When I was rereading th 4th book (after the 5th; yeah, i know i'm not very coherent :D ) I thought about it: What if Snape was with Voldmort just because DD asked him. Let's think: DD was headmaster when Snape was at scholl. Everyone knows that DD is special; he seems to know everything that happens in Hogwarts.

I thought that DD must have seen in teenager Snape an ally, even before he could have joined to the Dark Side. Is it possible that DD has asked Snape to "join" Voldmort, but just to spy. In other word, could Snape have always been a good wizard?

He knows occlumency, so, Voldmort could have never found out that Snape was good. I've been checkin in Occlumency lessons (the part when Harry sees Snape's memories) and what Harry saw can't contradict my theory (although it can't prove it either).

We also know that Snape was in a group of Slytherins whose members fell into the Dark Side (it's Sirius who says it, I think, and in book 5), but no friend of Snape is with him at the end of his DADA OWL...

What do you think?

[And sorry for the looooooong post!!!]

Sorry the double post!

Could a mod move this post to "theories" instead of being in "rumors"??
I think it suits there... Thanks:)

hey, interesting, that may be it, I was wondering why DD would trust snape and not malfoy, if both of them where death eaters ....

If I understood right what Jotomicron said, Ju, he thinks Snape had never been a bad wizard, that is, DD asked Snape to join LV, while instead Malfoy joined LV for his own will.

I think this theory is very interesting and may solve right...
Good point Jotomicron

I think Jotomicron has it right :) . Dumbledore wouldn't have trusted Snape if he had ever worked for Voldemort. I think that Sirius may actually have said something to that effect in book 4.

I dont know, it does make sense as to why Dumbledore does trust Snape so much, but i think that for Voldermort to have trusted Snape then he must have acted in a way coherent with the other Death Eaters. ie: killing/torturing mudbloods etc. And if snape truly was on the good side then he wouldn't have been able to do it.
While Occlumency would have stopped Voldermort being able to know that snape was working with Dumbledore; it wouldn't have prevented him from wanting to know that Snape was actually a true supporter of his by carrying out the things he wanted.

I was totally loving this theory, and thinking that it might infact be right, but then I came across one little problem...

Remember that trial, where Karakoff names Snape as a DE, and DD gets up and says that Snape was infact a DE, but then he changed sides??? It doesn't quite mesh...
a) if Snape was never a real DE all along, just pretending for DD, then why tell everyonethat he's changed sides now? Why not just let the story continue?
b) if people on DD's side knoew already that Snape was pretending all along, there woudl be no reason to tell them that he was a DE before, since he never truely would have been one...

I did love the theory before I though of that though! Good job Jotomicron! Congrats!

Because DD saw them in Hogwarts (I'm assuming Malfoy has been a Hogwarts student) and he must have seen something in Snape that would fit in his requisites... And we know Snape has a big secret. That would almost sort it out.

I think I didn't understand you quite right... But Snape would have been a DE, and was pretending to everyone... AND DD knew that Voldie would come back... So he didn't want to tell anybody that Snape was working to him.

Do you remember when I'm talking about? The Karakoff trial that Harry saw in DD's pensive?

nah, that's cool! I am half alseep anyways, and always have been a schoking typer! hehehe!

Anyways, what I'm trying to say is what would have beenthe point of that if DD already knew that Snape was spying on Voldie for him. Where woudl be the advantage in telling people that while he was once a DE, Snape has now decided to change sides? Bit risky dont' you think?

And whowould have known that Snape was (or was pretending to be) a DE before DD said that? They all seemed pretty shocked when Karakoff accuused him?

Basically, I jsut dont' get he point of the whole thing if Snape was spying all along, and DD knew it? :???:

(Hrmm, think I'm repeating myself... whoops!)

Simply cos' snape (who would be good with this theory) would end up in azkaban for nothing, and I don't think DD would let any of his allys go to azkaban, especially w/out a reason

Yeah. but who would have beent heone to accuse Snape or whatever in the first place? Becuase when Karakoff accused him, DD said that the Snape thing had already been settled?

But that is a good point though Ju! Maybe he was captured or something I suppose?
