Hey, does anyone have any idea why my clock says it's a quarter past 32?
Err, okies, here we go with the results of Ravenclaw's quiz....
Question 1 was
Whose head is said to have resembled a dairy-product?. This was the
hidden bonus question and worth 4 points
(whereas the other questions are all worth 2 points each).
The answer was
Ludo Bagman, who was described as having a
round face gleaming like a great, excited Edam on page 93 (UK paperback version) of
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (chapter 8 ).
Hufflepuff correctly answered question 1, and provided the correct page location and chapter, so score a full
4 points!
Slytherin astutely pointed out that Amos Diggory's disembodied head, in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, American version, chapter 11, page 159 (UK version page 141) was described as a
large bearded egg and wondered if this would count as a dairy product. I had to double-check whether eggs are dairy products but according to definitions I've found, only milk products are classed as dairy products, so unfortunately the egg can't be classed as being correct. I'm sure the chickens and ducks on the board would applaud Slytherin for trying though.
Gryffindor had a valiant try and guessed Colin Creevey but I'm afraid that, with Slytherin, Gryffindor also score no points, which gives
Ravenclaw 8 points as a result of Slytherin and Gryffindor's incorrect answers (4 points for each incorrect answer).
Question 2 was
What kind of animals are there at the top of columns at the entrance to Hogwarts?
The answer is
winged boars. There was a choice of page references that could be used with your answer as there is more than one mention of the winged boars in the books.
Hufflepuff answered correctly and gave
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban chapter 5 page 68 UK as a correct reference.
Slytherin also gave the chapter 5 reference (page 87, American version).
Gryffindor answered equally correctly and gave
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 12, Pg 152, UK as the location of their answer.
Hufflepuff, Slytherin and Gryffindor each therefore score 2 points, with no points to Ravenclaw for question 2.
Question 3 was
How many muggles was Sirius claimed to have killed with a single curse?.
The answer is
12 (He was claimed to have killed 13 people with a single curse, 12 of whom were muggles - page 34 of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (11th edition) UK). All 3 houses of Slytherin, Gryffindor and Hufflepuff correctly answered with the correct number and page locations (and no-one got caught out and answered 13!). Hufflepuff also pointed out that there is further clarification by the reference to
The murder of Pettigrew and all those Muggles in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban chapter 10 page 155, UK edition.
Slytherin, Gryffindor and Hufflepuff each therefore score 2 points for question 3, with no points to Ravenclaw.
Question 4 was
What time is breakfast served?
This is an interesting one. The definitive correct answer appears to be 8.30AM, as indicated by Dumbledore on page 395 (UK version)/page 454 (US hardback version) of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, chapter 24.
Slytherin correctly answered 8.30 and score the full
2 points for this question. Hufflepuff, however, answered 10 AM on Saturdays, quoting Harry Potter and the Philospher's Stone chapter 11 page 135 UK paperback edition as their source, where it is written:
'You've got to eat some breakfast.'
In an hour's time he'd be walking on to the pitch.
and
the Philosopher's Stone chapter 11 page 136 UK paperback edition:
By eleven o'clock the whole school seemed to be out in the stands ...
It's not absolutely clear whether breakfast is later (ie at 10.00) on Saturdays (and probably Sundays if this is the case) or whether Harry, Ron & Hermione were simply at a late sitting of breakfast which may have orginally started an hour and a half earlier. What is clear though is that they were at breakfast at 10 AM, so I'm going to split the points for Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw on this one, and give
Hufflepuff one point for their answer, but
Ravenclaw one point as well, as as we don't know when breakfast was originally started (which is what I'd take "served" to mean) on that particular Saturday.
Gryffindor had a good guess at 8.00 AM but score
zero points, whch gives
Ravenclaw a further 2 points for question 4.
And finally, question 5 was
In which year was the Behaviour Code of Werewolves written?
The answer was
1637. This is confirmed Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone (UK) page 192 UK/page 292 of Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone (USA) here Hermione says she
needn't have learnt about the 1637 Werewolf Code of Conduct. All 3 Houses answering the quiz identified the year correctly, with correct page locations for their answers, so
Gryffindor, Hufflepuff and Slytherin all score 2 points each, with zero points going to Ravenclaw for question 5.
Yay, so that's the answers - how does this total up for House Points?
The total House Points scored in Ravenclaw's quiz are:
Ravenclaw 11 House Points
Hufflepuff 11 House Points
Slytherin 8 House Points
Gryffindor 6 House Points
Congratulations to Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw for sharing joint 1st place in this quiz! And well-done to Slytherin and Gryffindor too for scoring some valuable extra points!
Taking this quiz's scores into consideration, the running total for the House Cup is....
Slytherin 89 and a half
Hufflepuff 71
Gryffindor 64
Ravenclaw 51
Which means that Hufflepuff are narrowing the gap for the lead between themselves and Slytherin, and have widened the gap for second place between themselves and Gryffindor. Meanwhile, Ravenclaw are starting to catch up with Gryffindor!
With Hufflepuff being the top-scoring answering House in this quiz, Hufflepuff become the House to set the next quiz. Enjoy setting your questions Hufflepuff, and best of luck to all in the next quiz! The award of the House Cup will be quite soon now!
