It doesn't seem logical that Hermione is in Gryffindor, when she is so intelligent. She seems brave but i think harry bring that out in her more than anything.

aaacckkk...I wish i could refer to book five but, eh, i'll get over it...

With out Hermione in Gryffindor, I'm sure Ron and Harry would not have been the dynamic duo they are today...however, maybe by chance they would meet anyways like how Harry met Cho, but yet i think that with out her LV rules the world...

didn't they meet in the train before the sorting anyway ?
If I am right, I believe that they could have stayed friends, but would'nt have been able to discuss things in the common room ... or share homework with her

Yeh I think they would still have become friends via the whole troll incident. Mind you they would have had to find a different way to offend her that halloween so that she was in the bathroom to be attacked.

You are right, Ju-Dedoh about the train, and I agree with out having Hermione around them 24/7 in classes, and in the common room Harry and Ron would be up that creek with out a paddle...

I mean if Hermione wasn't around in the Gryffindor classes to bug the heck out of Ron as first years (especially the famous charms class..."its leviousah, not leveeeosa") then Ron wouldn't have made fun of her and then she wouldn't have fled to the girls toilets then Harry and Ron wouldn't have had to save her from the troll, and then their awesome bond between them would not be there...

So hermione needed to be in Gryffindor...

Those are great points. Without Hermione with them in Gryffindor, Ron and Harry would probably have either gotten expelled or flunked out of school ages ago. They'd definitely be missing a vital bond of friendship in her, too.

Another thing that occurred to me is that perhaps Ravenclaw would have been too much of a good thing for Hermione. Maybe she would have become so obsessed with brilliance and academic honors that she would have lost touch with people from an early age, and become either a snob or a very lonely individual. Maybe the Hat thought it would put her in a place where her gifted mind could get more real-world practice and interaction with others.

What I said doesn't make sense! If that were the case-if the Hat knew that some students were susceptible to constant influence of other students with their same or similar personality traits-then surely it would've known that Slytherin, combined with Lucius' Dark background, would be far too much influence on Draco Malfoy. :???:

Oh, well. There goes that theory.

Well maybe Draco matched Slytherin so well he was sorted, while Hermione was on the boarder and then it thought about your idea.

ack! Lolita Banana beat me to starting a convo on this subject... i was just checking through to make sure no one had started this when i found the exact same one i was going to put up! :lol:

anyways...

i have read book five and i'm not putting any spoilers in here but... i still think that even though hermione is brave, brains are still a bigger quality of her. the people in the other houses are brave, too... they just have qualities that are more prominent in them. i think hermione should be in ravenclaw, but then... the sorting hat know much more then we do :roll:

Well JK wanted the Harry-Ron-Hermione thing and she wanted Hermione to be really clever (probaby so Harry could pass his exams) so she probably didnt think that the sorting hat should have put Hermione in Ravenclaw.

Hermione should have been in Ravenclaw, i think the sorting hat knew Harry and Ron were friends with her so it broke its rules and sent her to Gryffindor

There's also the factor of individual character's choices. Draco WANTED to be in Slytherin, and Harry WANTED to be in Gryphindor. So maybe Hermione WANTED to be in Gryphindor too. I think I remember her saying something to that effect in book 1
