The Death

Which one is your favorite so far. Are they getting even better as the characters develop over time?

Obsolete ?
I'm afraid you're going too far here.
I mean, he could have been still very useful to the ootp club, and become harry's new family.
But as we said before, life's not fair, and death doesn't always have a goal.

But thinking about it, you must agree that harry going to the MoM to try to rescue Sirius (at least he thought he was going to) allowe the minister to realise LV was back. So all this had a purpose, and in this way, Sirius' death becomes useful.

I agree with yasmane. Surely you don't have to die, just because people think bad of you (unjustified)! He/they didn't even try to get his name cleared, so yeah, then it's easy to say that nobody would ever want him back in society. Think of Mrs Weasley, when she saw Sirius at the end of GoF, she was terrified, but she came to accept him more or less over time. I think loads of other people could do that as well, when they see that Dumbledore accepts him because people have respect for Dumbledore, and know he wouldn't deal with someone who 'gave away' James and Lily.

In all, his death had a purpose, namely making sure the MoM realises LV is back, but he didn't die because he was obsolete, I'm sure of that.

I'm glad to see Gecko and I agree.
It surely doesn't put an end to the discussion but I'm not the only one to think as I do.

Well, yes i do agree with Gecko, but I dont think he died because no one liked him. It would be hard for her to continue for him to be in the 6th book as stuck in the house. Plus, the concept that the Order = ppl dying for the good of the ppl. This could be an example of that.

I didn't want to start a new thread because my question is very close to this topic.

Well here goes..... Did Dumbledore let Sirius die, and for what reason?

Quotes are from OotP Chapter 35...
One of the Death Eaters ran for it, scrabbling like a monkey up the stone steps opposite. Dumbledore's spell pulled him back as easily and effortlessly as though he had hooked him with an invisible line -

And a couple of paragraphs later, when sirius was hit....

Harry released Neville, though he was unaware of doing so. He was jumping down the steps again, pulling out his wans, as Dumbledore, too, turned towards the dias.

It seemed to take Sirius an age to fall: his body curved in a graceful arc as he sank backwards through the ragged veil hanging from the arch.

Harry had time to turn and take several steps before Sirius fell. Why didn't Dumbledore just pull him back with that spell?

I really thought he died, THEN fell through the archway. Maybe I'm mistaken, but I thought that's why the archway was there in the first place...cause he died.
Did bellatrix do a spell, like ACCIO ARCHWAY! And poof, there goes Sirius.

I think I'm seriously confused about how the poor man died...I feel...inadequate now :-?

I never looked at it that way Devinci. I always thought that he fell through the archway alive. Now I'm confused... :???:

Oh, but the veil was the doorway between life and death - something closely studied by the unspeakables.

Nearly Headless Nick explained the best - trained wizarrds study the subject in the DOM. But since he was afraid of death, he opted for the ghost route.

The DoM studies the greatest human puzzles of all - death, love, time, and more.

Well Huey, I think it's more a stylistic device than something else.
I mean she wanted to express a sort of time slowdown when harry looks at Sirius but in real the action was going very fast.
It's similar to what people say when they face death : they say they can see their whole life in a few seconds, as if the time wasn't going differently.
Mays be that''s what happened here. May be.

That would explain then why DD didn't have time to rescue him.

I think that the veil is going to have a greater role in the next books, as JK said that we'll find out why only some become ghosts in the next books too. I have a strong feeling that they are connected.

The veil is definately going to turn out to be very important. As for how Sirius dies, im pretty sure that the book says he gets hit with a RED beam of light in the chest. The only spells i know of that have a red beam are the stunning spell. The way i interpreted it was that Sirius was stunned, then fell back through the arch and died.

When I said that Sirius was obsolete, I meant in the sense that he could no longer help to move the plot forward. I didn't mean that he wasn't needed by the other characters as he obviously is still relied upon by many.
