What does moderators do?

Postby Neo » Monday 21 April 2003 6:42:58am

I was just wondering Paul, in which ways moderators help?

moderators usually lead the forum they moderate

that is:

1) keep it active by posting threads and replies
2) delete/move spam
3) move/split topics that need it
4) moderators also sometimes have the power to make threads sticky and make anouncements if things are important or dont want deleting
5) edit posts.....say if you made a major mistake in a post and desperately need it editing then pm the mod for that forum and they will do it

i think thats about it for this forum

Yes, all that 12321 and Sonkem have mentioned, including generally ensuring the Rules of the board are upheld, is about it really. I like the description of helping me to clean house by the way - now where did I put that duster? :)

3) move/split topics that need it
4) moderators also sometimes have the power to make threads sticky and make anouncements if things are important or dont want deleting
5) edit posts.....say if you made a major mistake in a post and desperately need it editing then pm the mod for that forum and they will do it

* I only know how to do the first one... *

Moderators now have their own private area of the forum, viewable at the bottom of the forum index page after they have signed on. :)

It's about time, too. I ran into a boggart post and instead of showing me the normal stuff, I saw my last disastrous love letter splattered all over the screen....

I pointed my Logitech Troll Nail Core mouse at it and screamed Ridiculous! several times but since I cannot spell "Ridiculous" (see?), it didn't work. Eventually had to hire a Dark hacker to take care of it.

And welcome to the boards hank :welcome:

The way I'd describe it is that it's a post is kept at the upper part of a forum as an important or useful post, yet is not quite an Announcement. :)
