I do remember that; but I mean DD know who he was, but not the explanation of the name, Tom says to Harry something like this after changing the letters of his name "I already used this name when I was at ¨Hogwarts, a name that would eventually inspire fear in the hearts of all the wizards of the world" (something like that); so maybe the DE have a kind of explanation too

Maybe Snape goes off on a tirade to someone, like he did with Fudge where he explains something new like that... maybe to Sirus or Lupin....?

Yeah, it seems Barty did an excellent job; but maybe just because he only gave classes. Maybe if DD had more chance to be eit him in other places he would have noticed.
And yeah he definitely know anout stuff like that, he is said to be the best auror.

There were all the lunches and stuff too where he would have been around DD.. and after all, it was only a very little thing that tipped DD off...

I doagree that the things that Moody knows must be very interesting... I cant' wait to find out!

Death Eater...hmmm...kina freaky name. Eating is a thing you need to do to live. Perhaps these evil people live for death and destruction that they feed on the the evils of wrongful death...dum dum dum...hence death eaters....and boy i like the french Vol De Mort. Kinda cool...i love all the french references in the book like...
There is more, but way cool

Holly says: Sorry, But I've taken that last bit out... just trying to keep this section totally Book 5 spoilers free! :( (hope you dont' mind too much!) :D

Originally the DE's went by another name; the knights of something begining with p...can't remember...maybe your theory is what transformed them to DE's?

So, anyone know if Walpurgis means anything?

Well, I was about to post that, then though... why not look it up myself...
So I searched, and this is what I found...

May 1 marks the final victory of Spring over Winter, but before departing, the witches and their cohorts have one last fling. The night from April 30 to May 1 is called "Walpurgisnacht", the night of Walpurgis or Walpurga. The festival is marked by numerous rituals to ward off evil. Legend has it that on Walpurgisnacht the witches would gather on the Brocken, the highest peak in the Harz Mountains. Because of the Walpurgisnacht scene in Goethe's Faust, in which Mephistopheles takes Faust to the Brocken and has him revel with the witches, the witches gathering became widely known.

Under Christian influence Walpurgisnacht became a fest to drive out evil spirits.

Strnage that... it's to do with driving off evil... doesn't really seem to fit? :???:

Originally, according to this http://www.serve.com/shea/germusa/walpurgi.htm site, where Holly got her quote from if I'm correct, the Walpurgisnacht was a gathering of witches and wizards and later, after christian influence it became a fest to drive out evil spirits.

That would mean either, that it's based on the first thing, with a gathering of (evil) witches (at Voldemort's) or that The Knights of Walpurgis were originally a good order, bent on driving out Evil Spirits, but were corrupted by Voldemort? Or maybe it's something complety different, most likely yes : )!
