hey i haven't had a go yet =P

Just did a double-check on what my fellow Slytherins submitted for question 1 (according to Blaise), i'm confused too...

Examples:
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them wrote:Sphinx
M.O.M. Classification: XXXX

The Egyptian sphinx has a human head on a lion’s body. For over a thousand years it has been used by witches and wizards to guard valuables and secret hideaways. Highly intelligent, the sphinx delights in puzzles and riddles. It is usually dangerous only when what it is guarding is threatened.

Sure, it'll turn homicidal if you get the riddle wrong--But only if its current guarding something (remember when Harry tried to cross the path Hagrid's Sphinx was guarding?)

Same with 3 of the 5 creatures we picked.
--agressive if provoked

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them wrote:Re’em
M.O.M. Classification: XXXX

Extremely rare giant oxen with golden hides, the Re’em are found both in the wilds of North America and the Far East. Re’em blood gives the drinker extreme strength, though the difficulty in procuring it means that supplies are negligible and rarely for sale on the open market.

Technically, it doesn't say whether the Re'em is dangerous. Why didn't we pick it?

Harmless until proven dangerous right? Or is it the other way around?

According the the qn, the creatures must have been defined with an XXXX classification, and given that clasification for reasons other than which the XXXX defintions implies.

This is the last piece of information or hint that I will give out for this question.

Also, to people saying that we Ravenclaw's are confused about the qn, or whatever else, know that we are not. We are simply trying to give out more and more hints as to how to interpret this question, without coming right out and telling people the answers.

Thank-you all for your time and effort people, and this quiz, thankfully, will be over very soon.

Holly.

I guess that answers my query over the Re’em
thanks Holly

Now I just hope that you's decided the Sphinx is really really dangerous, regardless of *when* it decides to be.

Then Slytherins would oWnz =P

Well according to the deadlines, it is already over.

Congratulations, that was fun and thought-provoking...and truth be told I would be hard pressed to come up with a quiz as good as that. Who has the quiz next btw...and how does it work?

Thanks people! Gwared, I'm sure you could come up with a good quiz :-) , and 2Fast2Type_R, I'm sure the Slytherins did well...if I'm not mistaken, you lot have the most house points at the moment!

And yes, Huffleduck, I shall follow your orders in the future (even though you did say I taste like ice cream?! :???:  ). Thanks to all the Ravenclaws (gecko, Holly, FriarTuck, etc.) who tried to help clarify things without giving away vital information and for Paul saying he liked our quiz (as well as those others he said that as well!). It is much appreciated  ...I'm sure the next house will do a good job as well...we Ravenclaws wish them all the best...have fun with it! :D Have a wonderful day and looking forward to seeing the results! :-)

Hehe, I posted that and then decide to read this entire thread to get a history of the quiz. Seems I was gone a while...aren't you at work Lizzy? Or is it the confusing time difference?

It would seem that Ravenclaws lack of points was partially due to a lower level of activity in the house during the quizzes early days..the same for Hufflepuff.

Then Gryffindor died and Hufflepuff became more active, causing Slytherin, who have always been active, to carve a respectable lead.

After looking at previous questions this quiz was no worse than some previous ones for inter-house moaning, though it didn't last as long previously....prehaps because it was highlighted that this is for fun!!!!!

I wish Ravenclaw all the best, and hope they get lots of points of of Hufflepuff and Slytherin , but hopefully not us. Which was the bonus question btw?

PS I have nothing against Hufflepuff and Slytherin members, but you did kick our butts last time

What you wrote, Gwared, makes perfect sense...Ravenclaw, for ages (up until shortly after I joined in June 2003), had only two active members and probably one of the lowest member counts! :-( Now, however, we have 60 members  , with half of them active!! This helped considerably with the last quiz! :D

Thanks for helping to remind everyone, Gwared, that the quizzes ARE supposed to be for FUN! :) It's nothing to moan/complain/get angry about...it's just an online quiz...you do the best you can, then wait your turn to make up a tough one! :-) I'd say which question was the bonus question, but as I think I'm going to get flamed for my previous posts :o , I think I'll keep this short...have a good day! :)

Ahhh, dont' you hate it when you write up a post, and somewhere between hitting submit and the post getting submitted, the puter disconnects or whatever, and the post is lost!!! (Go figure, but that's what just happened to me! :evil grin: )

Anyways, here's the gist of it...

Gwared: The way that the next house chosen to make a quiz is the one who recieved the most points in the previous quiz! Int he case of houses getting equally the highest amount of points, the last house to set a quiz gets to choose!
ie. the last quiz was set by Slytherin. We (Ravenclaw) and Huffelpuff (I think, but i may be wrong :( ) got the same amount of points, so Slytherin got to decide who would set the next quiz, and it turned out that it was us Ravenclaws!

So now, we just have to wait for Paul to come online and tell us the results! (As he's the only one who can enter all the common rooms to get the answers!!! )

Still hoping that you all got the answers wrong, ;) but oh well, it's all for fun, isn't it!!!

Here we go with the results...
:jump: :drums: :jump:

Firstly, the questions again, and...the answers... :)

1) Q. Name all the beasts given a XXXX classification, which aren't defined as being dangerous.
A. Centaur, Demiguise, Golden Snidget, Merpeople, Phoenix. and Unicorn

2) Q. What event/s do we know of that happened in 1473?
A. The Quiddich World Cup was started up, and all the 700 ways of commiting a foul in Quiddich were committed!

3) Q. Which finger off which hand did Peter Petigrew cut off?
A. His index finger off his right hand.

4) Q. What do we know happened in the year 1792?
A. All three Heads of Schools were injured during the Triwizard Tournament by a rampaging cockatrice!

5) Q. What did Ron pickel, and why?
A. Rat Brains for a detention from Snape.

Each question was worth 2 points, except the hidden bonus question, which was worth 4 points. Which one was the hidden bonus question? Hee hee - it was number 1, about the beasts. :)

Gryffindor had questions 2, 3, 4 and 5 correct, but answered Demiguise, centaurs, merpeople, phoenix, snidget, sphinx and unicorn. for question 1. Very close, but the sphinx is descibed as "usually dangerous only when what it is guarding is threatened.". Gryffindor therefore score 8 points for their correct answers, but give 4 points to Ravenclaw for question 1.

Hufflepuff had all the creatures correct except for missing out the Demiguise in the answer to question 1. Correct answers were given for questions 2,3, 4 and 5 though, so Hufflepuff also score 8 points for their answers, but 4 points go to Ravenclaw for question 1 again.

Slytherin also had all of the creatures except the Demiguise, but answered the subsequent four questions perfectly. Slytherin therefore score 8 points for getting answers 2,3,4 and 5 correct, but give 4 points to Ravenclaw for question 1.

Which means that this quiz's total scores are:

Ravenclaw 12 points
Hufflepuff 8 points
Gryffindor 8 points
Slytherin 8 points

So, with the top score of 12 points going to Ravenclaw who set the quiz, the running total House points are now:

Slytherin 73
Hufflepuff 56
Gryffindor 49
Ravenclaw 30

So Slytherin are still out there in the lead, but Ravenclaw have caught up a respectable amount and now have a very decent score of 30 House points.
:double jump:
Between the answering teams, we have a three-way tie for the top score in this particular quiz, which means that Ravenclaw (who set the quiz) are able to make a tactical vote in the Ravenclaw Common Room on who they want to set the next quiz.
:double jump:
Well-done to all houses! There were some nice intriguingly difficult questions, and a lot of teamwork and research done in answering them. Much credit to everyone. :-) :)
