Characters to re-appear?

Postby June » Sunday 29 June 2003 10:17:00am

This is not exactly a rumour... more like pure speculation on which characters would probably re-appear (as in playing important roles as opposed to just a cameo appearance) in the 6th and 7th books, besides the main characters like Harry, Hermione, Ron, Dumbledore etc... Here're my guesses...

Luna Lovegood: I think she's a foregone conclusion... Rowling wouldn't spend so much time on her without letting her have a big role in Book 6 and 7. Besides, Rowling said that she had fun writing Luna, and see her as a foil for Hermione... so I think it's highly likely that she's appearing often in future books.

Tonks: Another fun character that Rowling introduced in detail, but didn't play much of a role in OotP... perhaps it's setting her up for future books? I should think Tonk's ability to transform herself at will would be very important later on... perhaps she can even disguise herself as one of the Death Eaters and infiltrate Voldemort's camp?

Mundungus Fletcher: A shady character that was described in great detail and keeps popping out at unexpected moments... he was also introduced in book 4, as a fraud who tried to deceive the Ministry by claiming he had a twelve-bedroomed tent with a jacuzzi which was destroyed by the Death Eaters at the trouble at the World Cup. He's unreliable, 'dodgy', and so sometimes I wonder if he's really that loyal to Dumbledore? What if he'll turn spy for Voldemort for profit? In any case, I just feel that he, as Tonks, is set up for more things in future books, since he seems such a prominent character in OotP, but didn't really play much of a role in the end...

Beauxbaton and Durmstrang students/ teachers: We see references to Krum, Fleur and Professor Maxime in OotP, but only in passing and through other people. Still, they were mentioned and not cut off totally, to remind people of them, perhaps foreshadowing their re-appearance in later books. So, I just wondered if they'll come back in Book 6 and 7, if only to have a show of international cooperation against Voldemort, and emphasise the importance of unity in the wizarding world. After all, in the first war, Voldemort was also an international threat. In addition, I think I remembered Rowling saying that we'll get to know about the international magical world... so I think it's a distinct possibility that we'll see these characters back into the Harry Potter series...

Cedric Diggory's parents?: This is just a wild guess... I just wondered that since their son was killed by Voldemort, they would naturally want to seek vengeance... perhaps after a year of grieving, they'll want to be part of the Order too? To see Voldemort's demise if they can?

Grawp: Hagrid's little brother... well... he can't keep living in the Forest and not become a more important character in future books... at least, that's what I think... and maybe it's to show greater cooperation between giants and humans...

So, what do you all think? Anyone else that you think would be re-appearing in Book 6 and 7?

I need to work on my splitting skills.

Here's gecko's post, which is actually related to June's topic:

I'm hoping we'll see a bit more of Prof. Flitwick's grand love charms ! : )

Also, the thought of the 3 wizard schools combining their powers to fight Voldemort seems interesting.. I think Karkaroff will be very interested to have a good defence, because Voldemort will definitely want to kill him.

And here's my post.

I agree that Luna's going to reppear- that's obvious.

I think Madame Olympe or whatever her name is will also come back- she's pretty much Hagrid's assistant, regardless of whether or not she wants to be. At least, that's how I see it.

Professor Lupin will definitely come back, since he's a crucial part of the Order, and now that Sirius is gone, he'll be Harry's mentor, I think.

Now that Sirius is gone I think Lupin will become even more important. Since he is the only remaining Marauder (except Wormtail) Harry will look to him as his link to Sirius and his father. Lupin will be like the father-figure and friend that Sirius was to Harry. Also Luna obviously will be back and maybe bigger than we think.

Well i agree on most counts, i'm not sure about Cedric's parents. But i definately think that we will see more of Luna, Tonks, and as hoopsmaster88 suggested i think that Lupin is vital, for harry's sake at least. He's the last real connection with his parents

I think JK has said that Lupin has a large role in the last book, so I think its pretty safe to say he will return. I also think that Grawp will be the Orders route to preventing the Giants from re-joining LV. He showed signs of being tamed in the forest just before that old witch got carried away by the centaurs (who could I be talking about hem hem), as he was looking for Hagrid, so I am sure he will return.

yeah i'm guessing that Frank and Alice Longbottom will come back in to play in the last two books...i mean what is with all those candy wrappers that they keep giving Neville? A sign of their insanity?? I don't think so because it was already obvious to most that they were insane...perhaps the candy wrappers are a clue to help foil LV and the DE...

What about:

Fred & George: This is more of a wish, but I really liked them, and I strongly suspect JK wouldn' just shelve them.

Percy: Sure, he's the black sheep of his family in terms of the Order, but, since Crouch's revelation and the last Daily Prophet, could he have wised up? Or does he still think his family is off their rocker?

Mad-Eye Moody: He was described(the phony at least) in Book 4, and he had a less major part in Book 5. We haven't seen the "real" Moody in action other than protecting Harry.

Even though I hate her desparately, I would love to see Umbridge return for another battle of wills with McGonagall because the Careers Interview was so funny. I also want Luna to have a more important role next time.

I know Fred and George will come back...they are the comic relief!!! Ok, I don't really know, but it is wishful thinking! I think they will have all their new jokes be kinda of like James Bond tools for the order. Think of how useful Extendable Ears will be!!!

It really doesn't matter to me...as long as Characters don't just get dropped (which...is highly unlikely...)

Oh, Fred and George left the school...no need to write them in anymore!

Hahaha, way to easy.

I think that...every character you could ever imagine that's been mentioned in the book will somehow come into play...(after reading the 5th book...man, it's amazing how that woman can tie all those things together...)

Even random guy walking by harry in the third chapter of book 4 (Just...made that up) will probably be important...you know what I'm saying...

About Tonks..... if she did disguise herself as a DE and "infiltrate" enemy lines, as June said, doesn't Voldemort have some crazy all knowing ability? I mean, kinda like Dumbledore but in an evil way? He knows what people think about him etc. If Tonks waltzed into his camp he would be like "my Voldie sense is tingling!" and Tonks would be Tonks-toast. Just my thoughts.

Hee hee "Tonks-Toast"...

Lord Voldemort isn't everywhere in the Death Eater movement, just as Dumbledore is not everywhere in the OotP movement. So Tonks could come in and spy in places where Voldie isn't.

Dedalus Diggle: I believe he's in the order but haven't seen him yet. He did make a brief appearance in PS (or SS if ur in the States) and could be interesting as McGonagall labelled him as a bit of a party animal (perhaps a glimpse of Fred and George in the future  )
