Harry's lackluster lament

Postby hermionesbetterhalf » Thursday 31 July 2003 3:21:31am

Why didn't Harry beat himself to a pulp for not remembering to use the mirror Sirius had given him. I would of like to have seen Harry contemplate what if i had used the mirror instead of the floo network...

my guess is tthat he was too grief stricken with guilt or something...i mean, i got the impression that he did realize what an incredible mistake he had made. he was probably overcome with guilt and grief and possibly was beating himself up inside :)

I thought that Harry was like already so depressed and so low that he couldn't beat himself up too much more. Like he didn't have enough energy to do it. It was sad no matter what though. It'll probably be like he'll beat himself up about this particular incedent later on in the series. Thinking things like "I could have talked to him a few more times if I had only opened that package earlier... " So once the initial shock of the death wears off he'll become more remorseful about what he did and didn't do with the last of his time with Sirius.

I say like a lot, lol, like, like, like-- I sound like a a valley girl, I should really cut back

also, sorry if this post sounds a little rambling. It's late and i'm tired *yawn*

Hi all,
You're may be right about harry beating himself up later on.
But what we can see now is that instead of confessing to himself he could have done better, he prefers to put everything under Snape's responsability (remember when he says at the end how much he hates Snape and that he will never forgive him).
He's really close to the basic teenager, rejecting his faults on other.
But I hope this mistake (not using the mirror) won't be a too heavy weight afterwards for him when he'll realise everything.

well, the mirror most likely has some significance in the next books, becuase it really has no importance in book 5. It seems kindof imporant, and JKR likes to use her props to their full potential.

Yeah, where is the other part of the mirror that Sirius had? Did he take it with him to the Ministry of Magic, or is it in No. 12 Grimmauld Place? I'm looking forward to finding out how JKR is going to use it.....

hmmm..this is a long shot, but what if they throw the partner mirror through the veil. Would Sirius be able to get it, and chat it up with Harry??? Ok, that's rather far fetched, but hey, it could happen.

Edit: I changed 'through' into 'throw', for better understanding of your post. Hope you don't mind. gecko

Abt OotP HQ, will it still be at Sirius's place? If so, maybe Lupin might search Sirius's room, finds the mirror and pass it to Harry. Afterall those 2 mirror belong to Sirius & James, surely it will be passed to Harry or maybe Ron?

I think that the whole point of the mirror shattering is JK hinting that it won't be a part of the story in the future, i.e. Sirius won't be contacted that way, if at all

That's such a depressing thought...*sob* If there is absolutly no more Sirius in the stories, my life really has no meaning......

Or maybe I'm being melodramatic again...*shrug*
