Mother : Harry Potter...is a book. Why does it matter??? ITS A BOOK.
Father : Oh my GOD, my son is reading...Harry Potter is officially holy material...
Grandmother : THE SCAR STANDS FOR LESBIANISM! HARRY POTTER IS THE ANTI-CHRIST....GET READY FOR THE RAPTURE...
Grandfather : .......
Brother : COOL! Harry Potter is evil!!! SWEEEEET!

So, basically, I think the proper diagnosis is...Harry Potter is a book, He aparantly has a scar, he gets kids to read, and my grandfather doesn't talk....

Now that's religion at it's finest

Devinci, that is funny.

I have discussed this with my parents, and we all agreed that I am old enough (14) and that since I paid it with my money, that I have a choice in what books I read. Just to be on the safe side, I talked to the minister at my church about the series. He said it was okay because it is fiction, they would be Christian because they celebrate Christmas and Easter. He even listens to them via audio tape!

The scar is in the shape of a Lightning bolt. Lightning bolts look like a series of "L"'s put together. Lightning starts with the letter L. It looks like L's, lesbian starts with L...

And, I'm another minister that likes Harry Potter.

I really like this thread...awesome....

Ok, here's what I think...

People are getting the religion Wicca mixed up with Satanism, and Wicca the religion mized up with witchcraft as in the story as in the fantasy stories dealing with fake magic...

Harry Potter vs. Lord Voldemort is a story of good vs. evil...it is a lesson teaching us that what is easy isn't always right...isn't that a lesson that the Bible tells us??? For example its easy to let people walk all over your beliefs, but its right to stand up for them, even though it's not the cool thing to do...

I am not comparing Harry Potter to the Bible, but I am pointing out that the major lesson conveyed through the books is one also found in the Bible...

I am also going with the fact that some think like this might be what you make out of it...way back people used to think the Beatles were a Satanic band...rrrrrrrright...if some people want to make Harry Potter into a Lesbian Anti-Christ, then fine...go ahead, but I am still going to read it because I don't believe it...

I can't believe that you knew that...that's awesome. I just, smiled at my grandmother and said "I know...man, what's wrong with kids today???" thumbs up for knowing stuff.

And you're all welcome, I love brightening the days of those I love by showing off my cool sense of wit. You're all the greatest...really

Those last few entries made me laugh!

I believe that using magic in HP books acually makes the book more accessible to children regardless of their religion. I am an adult fan of HP (nearing 30 - aargh!), but we have to remember that the books are (or were originally) aimed at kids. All kids are facinated by magic. Religion requires belief in something. Kids tend to believe things far easiler than adults - tooth fairies, father christmas etc. and this magical world is wonderful for sparking their imaginations.
