I suppose the sword could be used to give the final blow, and if the shield is really salazar's and not a simple invocation, VD will surely use it to defend himself from spells, So i think they might come in handy, but it won't become a sword fight (i hope)

I'm of the mind that the shield was no more than a defense spell that works because DD isn't trying to kill Voldermort and therefore isn't using unforgivable curses.

I quite agree, I think that if it had been the sliverins weapon, DD would have mentioned it to harry during their conversation.

Hrmm, I'm not so sure about that... DD doesn't always tell Harry everything... in fact, he tends to conceal quite a few fact from him as I'm seeing it!!! :D

He conjures a shield which makes a gong noise when hit, a wispy, smokey, silver shield...not a tangible solid shield that would detemine it being a weapon.

If protego is a shield for minor spells and jinxes (which it is from the DA practice sessions) then what's to say this isn't the next step for major jinxes and hexes?

Maybe you're right Gward, maybe it's more like a more advanced protego-like thingy (yeah, protego-like thingy, my vocabulary is really going down hill  ). Did LV say any incantations before the sword appeared? I dont remember? :-?

Cool theory, Enchanter!

I think the shield was solid (spell bounced off it and made a metallic sound) but even if it wasn't it still can be the Slytherin's legacy. I'm discussing non-material Founders' legacy in topic A Griffindor's secret?: http://www.broomsticksandowls.com/forum ... php?t=3065

As for the legacy of the Hufflehuf and Ravenclaw: I think in Middle Ages sword fights & stuff were male domain *trying hard not to spit out whole feministic manifest :evil grin: *
I think the 2 Foundresses left behind sth. else. But they could also be good at fighting, like Bella, the female warrior (but of course not Bella-like insane  !)

This is bothering me too:

--> I've always imagined Voldie the mad attacker and Harry the noble defendor :o Maybe they should swap the sword and the shiled!

AccioNiffler wrote:A sword fight would be interesting and all, I just don't think it'll happen. I mean all of JKR's thousands of pages about magic would be for nothing if the great Lord Voldemort was killed by a sword. I mean, a sword seems like such a muggle artifact compared to a wand or something like that.

Then it's perfect, since Voldermort hates muggles and would love it if he died like a proper wizard. Of course it would have to be by a muggle tool that he was undone

Dumbledore, my dear.

Back to the topic: I think, Harry's armour will be LOVE again. His mother's love protected him the first time, when LV did the spell on him. During the unfortunate events in GoF, he lost this protection. My expectation is, he will build up a strong love relationsship in books 6 or 7 and be protected through that again during the final showdown. Hope he won't lose a friend in the course of events.
