Weird Goings On

Postby Gwared » Tuesday 15 July 2003 10:53:28pm

Today my ISP cut me off, as it does if I'm on for 2.5hrs+ sometimes. However it did this whilst I was browsing here and when I dialled back-up every post had been marked as read. Any clue as to why this happened? Prehaps the interuption mid-transfer reset my board settings?

I was just wondering if there was a way to prevent this as I had to then check every post from within the last hour to see if I'd read them.

When you signed back on you probably were given a new IP by your ISP. The board looked at this, then started a new session, compared the time of your last session with the new session, found there were no new posts, so all the bells were marked white. The IP checking is an inbuilt feature of the board and I believe it's there for security purposes. I know it can be really annoying as it has happened to me too - the only thing I can recommend is changing to a different ISP that doesn't log you off after the 2 and a half hour period. Can you get broadband in your area? May be wothwhile transferring to that as prices start at around £19.99 per month. If you're like me though, BT may not have introduced it in your area yet. :(

Yeah, thought it'd be something like that. I'm using BT dial-up at the mo' and will probably change to Broadband shortly, but for the moment I'll have to cope!.

Thanks.
