My race is Chinese, and my nationality is Singaporean! So special hellos to Choki, June, and any other fellow Singaporeans! :)

Yes! the dictionary is 100% correct but it doesn't say that "chinese" is a 'race' does it?

I should think that 'Chinese' is a race... if not, then I don't know what race I am. =P

My nationality is Singaporean, but my race is Chinese. ^_^

I still don't think that "chinese" is a 'race'.
Look at it this way. the majority of people from China, Korea and Japanese are all of very similar if not the same race. But you don't call a Japanese a Chinese.

I'm not hellbent on winning the argument or anything, but since you agree with the dictionary:

race1 ( P ) Pronunciation Key (rs)
n.
A local geographic or global human population distinguished as a more or less distinct group by genetically transmitted physical characteristics.
A group of people united or classified together on the basis of common history, nationality, or geographic distribution: the German race.
A genealogical line; a lineage.
Humans considered as a group.

Okay, so Germany is a country and German is a race....You see? I mean, this is the way goverment/id agencies, etc. categorize people (gosh that sounds so generic)...You have to go to the government if you really don't think that Chinese should be considered a race, darling :D

No offence alright, Cougar...Anyway this branch of the topic is moot; the point is where you come from! :) Sorry for the off-topicness.

I was born/raised in the Eastern Shore of Maryland, but I'm African-American. Dunno which country though.

Yes, I always agree with the dictionary. Words can have more than one meaning but when we use a word we only mean one thing. For the racial discussion that I have started I should have said 'genetic' race. It's what I meant. Stick with one meaning to a word. We can't have a discussion arguing whether a compass can both draw a circle and give the direction.
We can have another thread discussion the second meaning of 'race' if we wanted in which chinese is a race.
