Avatars are pictures that come up below your name whenever you post. By the way, Paul the upgradee seems to be dioing great.

Thanks Shadow - things seem to have finally ended up where they are supposed to be, and the database is functioning as it should (yippee!). The main thing tonight is to get the permissions for the Common Rooms sorted out.

Copyright can be a complicated issue so in general it is best to err on the side of caution. As it mentions on the avatar upload part of your profile, "if you are thinking of using an avatar which you have not personally created FROM SCRATCH, firstly CHECK whether you have permission to use it (unless the creator has clearly stated that an image is Public Domain, copyright exists on all creative works, no matter whether there's a copyright notice visible or not). Remember, copyright is law, and if you break someones copyright you are breaking the law".

In some instances it may not be absolutely clear. This is where I prefer to err on the side of caution and say if you don't know for sure that usage permission exists (which has been stated somewhere) it's best not to use it.

Sorry if this seems harsh but I intend to keep the board going on a permanent basis, so need to make sure that things stay within certain rules.

It would be fine for you to use any of the fractal avatars which are here for your msn profile, Gabrielle. They were created by me so I can give permission regarding them. Anyone else, please check with me first by the way. I'll probably say yes to most folks here.

Regarding the other avatars I'm not certain if there are any restrictions on just using them on phpBB forums. All of these others (apart from my fractals) are from the avatar downloads available at the phpBB site at http://phpbb.com/styles/gallery/index.p ... =./Avatars I'm guessing you would be safe using one just on an MSN profile, but that's just pure guesswork really.
