Looks like the poster forgot that people live past 40

I would fall into the 50-60 range. I can't understand why the books are marketed as "Children's Books".

I wholeheartedly agree. Age isn't the single determining factor in maturity either...but don't get me started on that one. I think it's a shame when people discriminate against younger people being on the forum by assuming they'll have nothing to say or will be rude and childish, the same way other people are prejudiced against older people being at a Harry Potter forum because they wonder why an adult would be a fan of Harry Potter or because they assume they (the adults) have no life or are obsessed with a 'children's' book. There may be those who actually fit into those categories, but isn't it sad when people put people into categories without ever giving them the opportunity to show who they really are? :-? It isn't your age that's the issue, it's how you choose to behave, regardless how many years you've been on this planet! :D

And yes, I'm one of those 'old people' on the forum. I'm 25!

I'm 16, and was 14 of 13 when I started reading Harry Potter books.
It's quite amazing how some of my friends react when I tell them I like HP books, they all seem to think I'm way too old for it.

And yes, putting people in categories is wrong. That's one of the reasons I like HP, because it shows how that effects people, e.g. Lupin being a great guy, even though he's a werewolf, and still being mistreated because of it.

I'm 35 and agree with what's been said about preferring not to put people or things like the HP books into categories. JKR has created something very special in the way the HP books may be classified as "childrens" books, yet cross over through all ages. I think the way she's done this is hugely through respect of her readers, imbuing the books with intelligence and humour, whilst developing complex plots, backgrounds and storylines which keep us all talking and wondering about what will happen.
