Book length...

Which one is your favorite so far. Are they getting even better as the characters develop over time?

Book length...

Postby Holly Golightly » Saturday 24 May 2003 4:47:00pm

Does anyone else every wonder as to if JK went back and wrote the first books again, if they would be longer or not?

I do, and was just wondering if anyone else did or not?

Each book that she writes is getting longer and longer, and filled with more and more details... so maybe if she went and re-wrote PS, it would be longer too???

:-?

Hmm...If she were to right now, I don't think it would. If she did, then it would probably go into more details that we're not really supposed to know or she would end up adding infomration that wouldn't coincide with the other books.
I think that the reason that the books are getting longer is that there are so many more question to answer in each subsequent book. I mean, there weren't as many possibilities for theories after PS, but now there are hundreds! The more information that's out there, the more lose ends you have to tie up.

She also said she wanted her books to mature with her audience...and adding more information to the first books would maybe mean an older target group...so I think she wouldn't change very much

It's definitely a cool thought, though. I'm sure there are things she would change if she were to go back a rewrite the books. Will now spend rest of day wondering what they would be...

Uhhhhhhhh, I'm sure that there was one thing in one of the first two books that I thought didnt' quite go... :-? like as if JK had written it in, and then though of something different/better/who knows later on...
But for the life of me, I cannot remember it right now...
Will have to go back through the books!!!

I know that I have certainly found things like that in other series... but I an sure that there is something in the HP series too.. I think in PS??? :???:

Let us know the minute you find that Holly, since I can't think of any.

I belive Jo wouldn't change anything of the books, specially now that like that they are so popular

I don't think I'd want her to change anything either, the books are perfect the way they are! :-)

I"m not trying to say that I want the books changed... I love them just like they are!

I was just thinking along the lines of maybe she was becoming a more confidant writer, and now the characters are becoming more developed thatn they were before??

Hrmm, it was just an idea?

From what i've heard book 1 was originally longer, but the publishers made her make it shorter as they didn't know just how popular it would be

If it was something important surely she wrote about it in the next books.

You know if it's true that book 1 was longer, they will prob publishthe whole thing at some time... prob after she's finished the series... jsut to milk more money from it!!!

After all, I'd buy another book if there was more in it!!!

But how much could be in it that doesn't change a thing about the other books.
