It only took two years for the money Harry gave Fred and George to dry up. one year, ten months and 19 days to be exact. a string of bad investments and unprofitable inventions had turned what once seemed like the one ray of light in their lives into the hole in which they worked.

Only one thing was left for Fred to try. He had promised his family to make a go of it, a real go. he couldn't fail them.

none of them had any idea what a state weasley's wizard wheezes finances were in and what a wreck George had become. Now never to be seen far from the three broomsticks tavern.

As he knocked on the door he shuddered. how could he have been reduced to this.

"come this way". the rather, odd looking butler stood aside for fred to enter. the door was shut, with a surprising lack of sound and suddenly fred felt very alone. There was a rather mixed aroma, sickly sweet perfume, mixed with something darker and more bitter.Freds head was begining to spin, what was he doing here?, how could it have come to this?.
"ahem, if you have quite finished, the master has been expecting you. Hedoes not take kindly to being kept waiting"
"oh, yes...of corse", the butler started off at a dawdling pace, his breathing becoming more and morelaboured the ferther they went, andthey did go a long way. through what seemed like miles of corridors and doorways, past years of Malfoy memorabelia and heirlooms. what struck fred the most was the numberof weapons which werehangong on the wall. in every concieveable spacewere swords of every kind. Once or twice Fred almost tripped on an upturned corner of a deep green rug and almost went crashing headlong into a suitof armour. was it his imaginaiton or did it move away from him? he was left with no time to ponder thisbecause at that moment the butler nockedon avast oak door andcurtly walked off. fred noticed he walked away a lot faster than he had walked here.

"enter"

The well oiled doors swung noislesly open and fred stood in the entranceto Lucious Malfoy's study.

"DO come in", the familiar Malfoy drawlswith an underlying grittyness, not as innocent as Dracos.

"urm i . NO i can't " Fred wheeled around to go out from the way he had come in. As soon as he tried to walk through the door, it slammed.

"well, no need to ask what gene pool you dragged yourself out off. Orange hair, ragged clothes and no manners. what else did i expect from a weasley?"

"I. ..I'm Sorry Mr Malfoy.."

"call me Lucious. Now what was it that yo wanted?, i assume you did want something, Weasleys are always in need"

Freds ears began to burn and his hands were already in fists inside his pockets. he had to calm down.

"i . times are hard at the joke shop."

"how much do you need?"

"we are in a lot of debt" Fred couldn't believe his ears Surley Lucious Malfoy wouldn't lend him money.

"Why would i want to lend you money?"

Apparently he diddnt

"I.sorry I'll go"

"will this be enough?" Lucious handed Fred A small piece of paper. on it was written a large sum of money.

" its more than Harry gave us in the first place. i don't think i'll ever be able to pay you back.. i cant afford"

" i know you can't afford it, thats why you are here Weasley. and even if you had money i wouldn't want it. no i want something else"

Fred felt the hairs on the back of his neck begin to rise

"What?"

"i want your word"

"my word?"

" You may be many things weasley, but a lier you are not. i want your promise that when i need to call upon you for a favour. that it will be done immediately with no thought."

Fred could feel his mouth forming the word no but suddenly his eyes were drawn to the paper.

" you have my word"

"good then, the money will be in your bank account on Monday. Don't forget your promise Weasley. I wont"

Fred found the door alot quicker than he had found the study. he was out with the money. What did Lucious need him for anyway? he had loads of wizards much more powerful than Fred in his service. Ha, Fred put it to the back of his mind. Lucious just wanted to scare him, it would be worthi it for him to have one of the Weasleys living in fear, well
"not this one" smiled Fred.
