Well, I read the first one too see what the hype was about, and it was okay, but it didnt' seem to me as great as everyone was going on about it...and since I borrowed the whole 4 books off a friends, I had the rest lying there, and started to read the second... then the third, and by that stage I was well and truely hooked, then the fourth! And then went back and read them all again etc etc! Now I al totally hooked!!!

Yeah, I have the thick feet thing going too! I am farm girl thru and thru! You can actually stick thumb-tacks in my feet and I can't even feel it... *it's really gross actually!!*

Okay, okay.

About serpensortia; I was thinking that tere is a part that we s till haven't seen again. I refer to the blocking of the the spells, what about them (how they work?)

I dont' understand what the blocking spells ahs to do with serpensortia??? *Holly is confused yet again*

Does anyone else think that the fact that Harry is a parsel tounge will cone up and be important again? Or maybe that it has done it's dash?
I think I'm leading towards relevant again...

*I know it's not exactly on topic, but it relates... serpensortia = snakes = parseltoung??? :???: *

I know it is not directly, but in the serpensortia part we see Lockheart trying to teach Harry how to block a spell.

I' ve just re-read the serpensortia chapter...what I noticed was that it directly follows the part where Hermione steals the ingrediants for the polyjuice potion from Snape's office. Harry feels that Snape blames him for blowing up Crabbe's cauldron, the 'accident' that allowed Hermione to get the ingredinants. Harry suspected Snape to have in mind something very mean to avenge himself on Harry, and the duelling club was founded directly afterwards. The scene in the classroom was cut out of the movie, and so was the fact that Snape told Draco to use serpensortia...maybe revealing Harry as a parseltongue was Snape idea of revenge? He promised, if he ever found out who was responsible for the firework in the cauldron would be expelled. Harry being suspected to be the heir of Slytherin almost led to him being expelled...

I like the theory too Mistress, but dont' agree with all of it!

I just can't bring myself to understand how Snape knew about Harry beign a parseltounge... I do think that the serpensortia was for revenge though, but because Snape thought that it would have frightened and humulilated(sp) Harry, and to show Harry just how easily he can land in danger, and to humble Harry by Snape 'saving' him by making the snake dissapear...

*hrmm Holly, could you have put any more "and to's" in that sentence, jsut to make it a little harder to follow??? :( *

Make sense? *if it's possible! *

im still of the opinion it would be possible for snape to know of the snake at the zoo incident.....its something that would have been in the muggle newspapers and we know snape is good at getting to know about news like that....think how fast he knew about the flying car....disapearing glass is the same specially as the school would be on the lookout for stuff like that to find kids that need to attend hogwarts.....

therefore snape using the snake may have been a guess....after all....dudley's friend did see harry talking to the snake......how do we know he didnt say that to a reporter??

Okies, two things...

1) the ford incident was also in the wizard news...

2) I think that we would have heard if the snake incident was inteh muggle news, becaue Harry would have been in more trouble from the Dursleys, because other people would have heard of something in their family being not normal... Can't you just imagine how rank Uncle Vernon would have been if it was int eh news!!! *poor harry*

Well maybe Uncle Vernon didn't see that news, but I dont think Dudley's friend would have talk to a reporter.

But for example, with Dobbny's accident the minister knoew which kind of spell was made, so maybe they eard about the dissapearing glass, and Snape heard something about it and draw conclusions.

I really dont' think so...

DD says at one point that he, unlike most other people, listens to the muggle news...

*cant' remember exactly where, and too lazy to look up the quote, but I think that it's in the 3rd book???*

And why would Snape have been looking for something to discredit Harry before he even got there??? Maybe if the snake incident had been after Harry had been at Hogwarts for a bit, but yeah... and did/does Snape even know where Harry lives? I cant' see DD letting the info be general knowledge???

I don't think it would be humiliating for a second class not to be able to deal with Serpensortia...that would be a very harmless revenge, and Snape is meaner than that. I dunno...it all seems too calculated for me too be a mere accident (I mean Harry being revealed as a parseltongue). And calculated was exactly how Snape's look was described after Harry talked to the snake.
And I do think it is possible the whole thing was in the newspaper, maybe not in the muggle news, but in the wizard news.
Or maybe Snape has some secret connection to the ministry?

in the book it just says that the boa constrictor had earned harry his longest ever punishment.....maybe that infers it was in the paper so Vernon got very mad....it doesnt say it wasnt...and its a big london zoo and a dangerous snake escapes...of course its gonna be in the news that kind of stuff always is but J K probly didnt think it was essential to stick that bit in....because she just moves straight onto the letters but theres a huge amount of summer holiday between letters and snake...
