I really think that Neville will be made a prefect, after all this discussion about the power that Neville might hide, and not knowing who else could be prefect I vote for him (tehre isn't a poll about prefects, is it?)

I dont' totally disagree that Neville might become a prefect... He does seem to have that 'good boy' thing going for him, even if he is a little cowardly sometimes!!!

I dont' really know if the prefect thing will be a big thing of not... Maybe we will just be told occasionally about random prefects inthe grade, since we haven't exactly meet all the students in that year yet!

I wonder if they have their own little ceremony, kind of like the sorting hat... maybe there is another hat that spits out he names of the prefects??? Goblet of Fire~ish?

but percy was told before his prefect and head boy years that he had got the positions......so if there was one it must have to be at the end of 4th year....but weve already had end of fourth year and no prefect stuff mentioned.

Maybe the ceremony took place, but Jo didn0t mention it because Harry wasn't in it, and then in book five she will tell us about it (We are not sure prefects are only mailed about being prefects (head boys yes))

In book one, Percy already had his Prefect badge before he got on the train....

Well, it does mean that there cannot be any ceremony sorting hat/goblet of fire esk as I theorised might be possible, because they would already know about it..

They might still have soem kind of ceremony, but the decidions ahve been made by the time they get to Hogwarts

I have a theory about the Longbottoms mental case. it is less about Neville but I thought it would fit in here.
when I read about the Longbottoms in St. Mungos I asked myself why there was absolutely no recovery from their amnesia after such a long time in a hospital that is specialised on this diseases.
but before I can get an answer to this I have to tell you another theory first:

I claim that Fudge only wants to have power and money, it doesnt matter from which side, good or evil. that means he would do anything just to be powerful, even if that means to take bribes. you can see at the end of book 4 that his reputation is more important to him than the safty of the whole world. Fudge does not want to belive that Voldemort is back because then he had to declare Voldies comeback and that would mean that he is not the right in position as Minister of Magic because the evil returned in his term.

now back to the bribes:
to take bribes means that there has to be someone who gives it.
here it is Lucius Malfoy. at the beginning of the Quidditch championship Fudge tells Mr. Weasley that Malfoy has given a great donation to St.Mungos. Malfoy has two main reasons for that:
1. prestige
and
2. he wants to hide what Mr. and Mrs. Longbottom found out about the Death Eaters and especially about him.

for that you have to keep in mind that the Longbottoms were harmed long after Voldemorts disapearance and after the Death Eaters judgments (a lot of acquittals if you ask me). now that means the Longbottoms found out that some of these free Death Eaters werent that innocent so that Nevilles parents could have taken them to Askaban. the Lestanges silencend them and Malfoy goes on by "giving" money.

Just not all the stuff about Fudge! I thinkthat you are like 99% right, but I dont' think that he would ever knowingly support Voldie. After all, he thinks that Lucious is a good guy, and when people make bribes like that, like in this case, Lucious would have convinced Fudge that having the Longbottoms stay int he state they are in is really better for them...

And Fudge is totally a power and money hungry type of person. He obviously doens't want to do anythign to make people think that the doesnt' deserve to be Miniter of Magic... which also leads me to think how did he get to be Minister? Maybe his rise wasnt' totally innocent?

I hadn't actually made the connection between the Malfoy's donationt o st Mungo's and the Longbottoms staying there... but it is very intersting... isn't it???

Yeah, the Longbottoms are at St Mungo's, becasue some the DE, and Lucius gives money to this institution, but I don't see why it has to be connected...
