RPG characters database suggestion

Okies, I've been thinking that I could set up a database of everyone's RPG characters - this would mean you wouldn't need to search through a load of pages of the Characters thread to find whether a member is being true to ther character or not - all you'd need to do would be to click on the member's name somewhere (possibly in the Memberlist or I could set up a separate list devoted to just members who have an RPG character, or I MAY be able to tweak the board so that it has an RPG character link under all posts).

If folks want me to do this I'll give it priority - I'll need to know all the fields that are required (and whether any should be optional or obligatory). For example the following fields could be used:

Name (obligatory)

Age (should year of birth be used instead, then compared to the year at the start of the particular RPG to give a "year of study" or age if too old to be a student?)

Blood

Year (if student) (see Age above)

House:

Best subject whilst at school:

Worst subject whilst at school:

Occupation (If adult)

Wand

Pet

Best Friends

Broomstick

Quidditch Position (optional)

Greatest fear (maybe?)

Additional Info or special ability: (optional)

Any more fields which should be used?

By the way, this is just an idea - we don't have to get it set up in datbase form so if you think it is a bad idea or a good idea, please do say.

Sorry, reading the age thing again confused me too. What I was trying to say is if, for example, your character was born in 1988, and a RPG thread started in 2003, your character would need to be a 4th year throughout that RPG thread. If a RPG thread started in 2004, that character would need to be a 5th year throughout that thread. Just a suggestion but possibly a bad one?

i think we need more physical characteristics and personality descriptions so that each character could be unique....and perhaps we should set limits on certain talents (ex: we dun want everyone to be parseltongues). i dun think reading minds should be a talent either...takes out all the fun of rpg...

Although it's an interesting idea GreenViper, I think azn's right - and we need to ensure everyone uses the same way regarding age, otherwise if some kind of ageing process is agreed upon, if we had more than one rate of ageing some characters would overtake the age of others.

You couldn't possibly use the Servers clock as a ticker, for the ages?... I.E The characters Birthday is March 20th, When the server clock arrives at March the 20th, the characters age goes up ...

I think that would be quite complex to script :S and might eat up alot of the CPU usage... i have no idea.

It could be done and wouldn't take up much usage at all if I just limited the personality description page(s) to separate pages on the site. Should someone's age be allowed to increase part way through a particular RPG though or should it be fixed at the person's age at the start of the RPG?

maybe the character's owner could decide whether the character should age or not....i mean, if they feel like the character should grow a year, they'll tell paul or something and paul could go change the age...maybe a little too complicated? i dunno

May be another couple of weeks or thereabouts - I guess I'll probably use month and year of birth (not your true month and year of birth but one you decide for your character) for age details. Then a date can be posted at the start of a RPG to say when the RPG takes place, and people can work out everyone's age from there. Depending on how the timeline of the RPG progresses (ie if the RPG timeline covers hours/days/weeks/months/years etc) an updated date can be posted from time to time by players in the RPG (if that makes sense).

or maybe perhaps whoever started the thread can decide when the year is...like give an intro on the setting and all the while give the date
