She had expected the lunge from the shadows, but still Neko’s knees threatened to give way as she was caught around the throat. She knew better than to struggle in her state, and soon felt the hold on her relax. Inu’s touch was warm and solid- comforting to her, in a weird way. But if he chose he could snap her in two, and depending on what he’d had to do to get her out he would probably be justified.
He whispered her name, so soft and caring, and Neko felt her tension start to melt away. She felt the pull on her arm and obligingly turned around and looked up into Inu’s eyes. She felt the need to tell him she was sorry, that she shouldn’t have been so arrogant as to go off on her own so far from the others, that she would have done anything for them to stop torturing her...anything, and that shamed her more than all else. But when she tried, her voice wouldn’t come. It was the look in Inu’s eyes...it confused her slightly. She found her head dipping in a nod and not really knowing why.

Inu noticed Neko's signal and bent down to kiss her, holding back the actual strength he wanted to put into it as he feared he would shatter her. It was a quick, passionate kiss, and Inu was so unfamiliar with such an act of affection, but he felt as he drew back that he had expressed what he needed to; that he was very, very glad that she was okay. He looked down at her again, and then pressed her to him in an embrace. Her body was trembling, and so fragile under his strong hands. He sighed. He knew how amazing she was, at hunting, at being cruel and completely dark. He knew he had to be with her. He wondered what she would be like if he changed her. If, when the full moon finally phased him completely, he savaged her and she changed into a werewolf too. Then she would heal, she could protect herself, she could destroy all those who would ever seek to harm her.

"Neko, why are you up? You should be resting." Inu muttered into her hair.

The kiss left Neko shaking a little. It was so much more tender than usual, and Neko felt something tingling in her stomach- it might have been her new scars, but what if it was...something else?
She told herself she was being silly, even when Inu brought her into his warm embrace and held her there. The tears that tried to form she blinked away, as they were a weakness Neko wouldn’t indulge just now. She never cried in front of anyone, not if she had any say in the matter.
She heard him speak, and felt her skin grow warm at the question. “I, um, I just wanted...”
Neko sighed at herself, she was almost babbling. She lay her head against Inu’s chest and took a deep breath, closing her eyes as she heard his heart beating strongly. When she spoke next her voice was barely louder than a whisper. “I wanted to apologise, Inu, for getting caught like that. And...I wanted to thank you for coming for me...”

Inu fell silent and still for a moment. He almost wanted to shake her, to wake her up to the fact that he would have set the world on fire to find her. He pulled her away from his embrace and looked at her face. "Anytime. I like watching out for you. And besides," he said, nudging her chin playfully with his fist, " You would do it for me." And to that he raised his eyebrows, not sure trully if she would, but glad that she was happy that he fought for her. "Now... Let's get you back to bed. Is anyone else up?"

Damien slowly opened his eyes. It had only been a few minutes since he had fallen asleep. "Stupid insomnia," he thought to himself. It happened every freaking night. There really wasn't a point in even sleeping.

He sighed in resignation. Ouki was already asleep on his chest, breathing deeply, strands of hair being pushed aside by her breath. Damien seriously couldn't believe that he was in this situation. It was... new. The last time he'd ever actually cared about somebody was... when he was about six. It was so weird to feel it again.

But it was also nice. He had forgotten how wonderful it felt to care for somebody and know that somebody cared for him. Even if they were both homicidal, it was nice.

Damien breathed in Ouki's scent. He could smell the shampoo she last used. He stroked her hair, humming a little tune he had learned in childhood. As he hummed, he slowly began to whisper the words. "If you don't walk as most people do, some people walk away from you, but I won't! I won't! If you don't talk as most people do, some people talk and laugh at you, but I won't! I won't! I'll walk with you, I'll talk with you, that's how I'll show my love for you."

"That was a nice song." Damien looked at Ouki and saw that she was awake. "What's it called?" she whispered.

"It's a little song my dad taught me when I was a kid. It's called, 'I'll Walk With You.'" Damien wasn't sure what Ouki's reaction would be.

She smiled. "I like it, can you sing it again."

Damien smiled. "Of course."

Ouki savered the moment, listening to Damien's beautiful voice. She was such a sucker for music, and when someone could sing and play an instrument, she was even more impressed. She sighed when he finished singing the song and sat up. Her heart sank as something occured to her. She wanted to leave with Damien, to suggest that they run away, but she still felt connected to Inu and for that she felt strangely torn. She loved Inu, like a brother. He was the only 'family' who ever understood her. She was trully devoted to him, and she wanted Damien to stay with them too. She wondered how she could make Damien stay. Because she wanted to love him, but she couldn't leave Inu. She wanted to surrender her heart, but she wanted to be strong enough to let him go if he chose to leave. She sighed again. "We should go. It's late, we should be asleep in a bed at home."

Damien yawned. Home? He had never really considered the hideout home. It was too tense. Even though he kept his stash there, it wasn't the place he preferred to be. But, he decided to comply. "Ok, let's head back to the hideout. I can tell you're tired."

He tried standing up, but then hit his head on the ceiling. There was no way in heck he was going to disapparate in this car while crouching over. It would ruin his focus. "Hey, Ouki, I know you're afraid of heights, but... we kind of can't disapparate out of here without serious risk of splinching." Damien really hoped that Ouki wouldn't freak out over what he was about to say. "We're gonna have to climb down. If you just hang onto my back, we should have no problems." That was a freaking lie, but from what Damien remembered about Ouki, she wasn't any good at Legilimency.

Ouki scowled. She remembered her fear of water, and how she had conquered it by learning to rule it. Unfortunately, the one thing that ruled Ouki was her pride. She was determined to prove Damien wrong about her fear of heights. She looked outside the car and noticed the framework where they would have to climb down. She reached through the cage with her slender fingers and unhitched the latch, opening the car. She spoke into the dark. "I'll climb down myself, I'll be fine!" she said, and took a step out, but she misjudged. Her foot found nothing - only air. As her body fell from the car her scream seemed to have been left somewhere above her. It all happened so fast, she was going to die, and there was no time to think.

Neko frowned a little. "I didn't see or hear anyone else here on my way, but then" she laughed harshly. "I wasn't paying too much attention. Aiee...”
She dropped a hand to her stomach, feeling pain snaking through the skein of scars there. Someone must have given her a painkiller earlier, most likely Damien, and it was wearing off. It wasn’t much just now, but it was building quickly. “Perhaps bed is a good idea,” she whispered, trying to hide the pain from her voice. As she turned to the door, Neko felt a wave of dizziness sweep over her. It threatened to knock her over as the edges of her vision blurred and the room began to spin, so much so that instead of opening the door she found herself leaning against it and breathing heavily.

"Neko..." Inu reached for her small frame and scooped her up into his arms. He brought her to his own bed and layed her there, covering her with the blankets. He sat down on the bed beside her, and carefully stroked some strands of hair away from her face. She felt oddly warm, and this worried him. "I'll get you something for the pain. Dammit.. how long ago did Damien give you that? I..." before Inu could continue, Neko had reached up and placed her hand on his shoulder. She motioned for him to lay down beside her, and he obeyed. She turned so he was laying behind her, and she reached around and grabbed his wrist, dragging his arm around her. She held him there, and soon, he began to hold her too. He moved closer to her, and pulled the blanket over them both. Her heart, which had been racing before, was slowing to a more restful pace. She sighed deeplly He could feel her temperature was easing. Inu closed his eyes, breathing her in.

Yuta stood awkwardly in the doorway to Inu's room. She'd come back to make sure Inu had taken his potion. It would be just like him to think himself strong enough to skip it. But as she nondescriptly avoided looking at Inu and Neko lying on the bed, she saw the empty goblet on the bedside side table. Yuta turned to leave, hoping that they wouldn't notice her being there at all.

Ah, that warm embrace soothed her more than any medicine could. Capable of such terror and destruction, yet also capable of a touch softer than silk. Not that the others saw this, this was something they shared in privacy- and Neko gladly respected that. But in the moments when they could lie together like this, it made her feelings all meld into one of fuzzy contentedness. As Inu settled behind her, she released a deep sigh and allowed a smile to grace her mouth. Her skin felt cool yet clammy, which probably meant she was coming down with a slight fever, but right now she didn’t care.
They were both relaxing, and though her stomach still twinged sleep felt close by, when suddenly there was an odd scent that didn’t belong to either of them. “Who’s at the door?” she murmured.

If Neko smell the intruder, even in her fragile state, then Inu's suspicions were confirmed. He gave Neko a squeeze. "I'll check. Don't move." He leaned over and kissed her cheek. She was really burning up, and he decided to also make her a potion to help the fever. Inu slid from the bed without a sound. The door opened and closed and he was at the front door in a heart beat.

Inu stood before the door, allowing his senses to heighten. He could hear someone.... no... three or four waiting outside the door. They were patient and calm, not on the defense at all. Inu checked his reflection in a mirror on the wall near the door. He smoothed his hair, and then frowned at the blood stains on his shirt. He looked around and found his cloak and put it on; when blood was shed on the leather, it usually didn't show. He opened the door.

Inu cursed under his breath. There were three muggle police men standing at the door. "Good evening sir." One officer said politely. "We've had a complaint that there was possibly a.... domestic disturbance here about an hour ago." The officer took out his note pad and was about to write what Inu's response was. Inu had to physically stop himself from laughing. Someone had heard him and Damien fighting and had called the police.

"Oh! Oh, no, we're fine now. It was just, me and my........ girlfriend. We were arguing about something and it got a bit loud and some stuff got broken." The officer raised his eyebrows. Inu added quickly. "No one was hurt though, hee hee." Inu cracked a charming smile.

"Right." Said the police man. "Well, we're going to have to ask your girlfriend if she's okay." Inu stared at them for a minute. Neko looked like she had been nearly beaten to death, but it wasn't by him. How would it be, being taken to a muggle prison for assault. The idea made him want to laugh again, but he composed himself.

"Um, she's asleep right now. She's got a terrible cold. I was just getting her some more medicine." Inu glanced in the kitchen and saw the potions equipment still out, and scanned the rest of the room and noticed all the other evidence that magic was used there. He could not believe the police were right outside their door.

"YOu'll have to wake her. May we come in?" The officer said, putting his hand up to the door.

"No! No, that's okay, I'll go get her." Inu said, and closed the door, attaching the lock. He cursed now, pulling out his wand and firing quiet spells around so that the house was cloaked. It looked a bit too much like a muggle house now, but he was pleased. He went to his bedroom, where Neko was now sitting up.

"Um, it's the police. Someone called them when ...Damien and I had a fight earlier." Neko's eyes widened. "Long story! I'll explain now. But ya, the police think you and I were fighting, so they want to see that you're alright. Um... you're going to need to get up. " Inu could feel his face getting hot. He was playing along only because he could see and hear the police cruiser behind teh officers and that meant that others knew they were there. Otherwise he would have popped off their heads and returned to bed with Neko. He stared at Neko, waiting for her to respond.

"We need to send them away. We can't afford to torch and go. You know as well as I do there are too many supplies here for us to run now. We would have to start over..." Inu dropped his head. He was asking so much from her. She was barley alive, and he wanted her to go act for him to three people that both of them could destroy in ten seconds.

Damien swore as he jumped out of the car after her. His ears were ringing from Ouki's scream. She was definitely going to attract muggles.

He reached her before she was even two meters downward. Allelujah, Ouki was done screaming. Damien wrapped his left arm around her, pulling out his wand with his right hand. Pointing at himself, he yelled. "Levicorpus."

They suddenly stopped in midair. They were about twenty feet from the ground. "You ok, there Ouki?" She was sobbing. "Hey, it's ok. It's ok." He patted her back as he held her close.

Crybaby.

Ouki took a look at the ground and between sobs managed to compose herself. She was angry about having to be helped. She lifted her head from Damien's shoulder and looked into his face. "I hope you riealise, " she said, sniffing. "That I'm a lot less clumsy than this usually. What an idiot...." she looked down. Then she laughed. "This is kind of... nice. Suspended like this... with you." She looked at Damien again. Just beyond them were security lights so she could read his facial expression. He was simply frowning. Ouki's heart fell. "What?" she said. Damien's eyebrows raised. Ouki frowned too. "You think... I bet you think I'm a real... well a real girl, don't you? You think I can't take care of myself! Aarg!" Ouki scoffed. Damien still held her as she reached into her pocket and pulled out her wand. She pushed Damien off and started to fall again, but this time she was ready. She apparated in mid air, leaving Damien suspended above her. When she reappeared, she gracefully landed on the ground below. "See you later Damien!" she yelled, and started to walk away.
